Our daycare provider has raised our price again $10/week. This this the second $10 raise since we've been there. It's causing me anxiety since we just found out I'm pregnant with #2. I also just bought a new car last month, so I now have a car payment. We just figured out a new budget, and now daycare is up $40/ month. What would you do? Talk to her? Look at different places? Just bite the bullet and pay it? Aaarrrggghhh!!
That is a huge raise when you consider the other kids she has also paying more. I wish I was getting that kind of raise at my job!!
Re: DC raising prices
Is it a private provider or a larger daycare?
Is the new rate competitive with others in the area?
If it's really creating a hardship you could try to talk about it, but I'd still be prepared to pay it.

She does give a sibling discount, but next year DS will be in preschool when the new baby would go to daycare, which will be another $10/week extra. I don't want to cheat her, but I don't want to stress over the amount we are spending. There has to be a breaking point since I can find other places that are much cheaper. It's not her fault that I have a new car payment, but I have to look at what is best for us financially as well.
Not sure what age preschool starts in IN, but here in MA you have to be 2.9 by Sept 1. So if you were planning on moving LO to preschool anyway, I might start to look now for the fall.
Otherwise I'd just suck it up and pay the higher price. Quality DC is worth it. With my own kid I really try to make things as consistent as possible.
When was the first raise? I believe you can only change the rates once a calendar year.
The increase price might be necessary. She is an in home provider. Taxes go up, water/sewer could go up, insurance, food, etc. You look at it as an $60 a week say there were 6 children, but her costs could require increasing her rates.
How long have you been there? We've been at a center and a Montessori and both have raised rates annually. Seems like most providers would to account for increase in costs, etc.
ETA: Does she provide food? I know our grocery bills have increased quite a bit, without any changes in what/how much we're eating, just because prices keep going up.
