    Dear DS,

I am so proud of your walking skills! You worked so hard for so long, and it has been fun telling people that you are finally walking. Everyone was pulling for you, and the faces just light up when they hear and see your awesomeness. Congratulations, little buddy! Keep it up!

    Love, Mama

  • Dear Weather,

What were you thinking, raining all day, and then clearing up right before sundown.  We were going to take Lily to her first parade, but had to forgo it because of the rain.  And, because it's clear now, idiots are setting up fireworks all over, keeping Lily, DH and I awake.

    Thanks for nothing,

    One tired mommy

    Dear 7 year old nephew,

I know we don't see you very often, but thank you so much for 'playing' with Lily.  I know it can be hard to play with a 2 year old who cannot walk or talk.  Many other children would have just ignored her.  But, you didn't.  You are the sweetest!

    Bunches of love,

    Aunt M

  • Dear DS,

It's only been like a week since a doctor told me she suspects you have autism.  I'm still in shock, denial, and am not sure how to process this.  I'm sorry if I've been out of sorts.  This is the scariest and most overwhelming thing I've ever faced.  But I'm doing my best to face it.  For you.

I've been working a lot with you on things like pointing, eye contact, imitative play and baby signs.  I want to say good job pointing to the dog in the book this morning, thank you for the eye contact and knowing when Mama needs snuggles.  I treasure those things now more than ever [Ladies, please tell me he won't continue to get worse, I'm so scared].  Good job feeding Grover and kissing the baby doll, and great job signing more.  I'll take any way I can to communicate with you, even if I have to learn another language to do so.  Oh and thank you for continuing to say Ma and throwing in some hi [haa] the other day while running back and forth greeting daddy and I.

I love you so much, Bug.
