1st Trimester

5 weeks prego, still nursing DD

Greetings! :)  I am 5 weeks pregnant with my 2nd, and still nursing my 14 month old.  So far so good regarding sore nipples, but I Am a little concerned about 3 things....1.) the exhaustion I am already feeling from my body working double duty, 2.) possible miscarriage from uterine contractions during release of oxytocin from my let down, and 3.) jealousy about bf from DD once baby #2 arrives.

I am getting it from both sides of the family to wean immediately, but I always had my heart set on bf until my lil girl was at least 2 (if my body can keep up that is...and also if that is what she wants; I would obviously never force it upon her, not that one could realistically anyway).  My mother believes that if I don't wean now the jealousy will be greater once the baby arrives, but I think it would be the other way around...if I wean before she is truly ready (b/c this little girl loooves to nurse still) and then another child comes in and takes over I feel there would be more resentment.

Of course if all goes as planned, this Will all be taking place in about 9 months from now, and I guess that is a long enough time away for things to adjust on there own (and maybe I'm just being freshly pregnant again and frantic with crazy amounts of hormones surging through my body, LOL)

Has anyone else ever continued to nurse while pregnant??  And what are your thoughts about weaning before DD is ready just b/c I am pregnant again?  I am feeling very confused, b/c if I do continue to bf like I'd like my next concern would be night time routines....as of now my DD is still very clingy and wants to practically sleep on top of me throughout the night; so I do realize changes are gonna have to be made regardless.  I just wish there was an 'easy' button!  Any advice from mothers who have been there are greatly appreciated, and a big Thank You in advance! :)

  • I have no experience with us but I have several friends who say their child weaned themselves and possibly because once you get pg again your milk will start to taste different. Im not sure if thats at all true just what my sister in law and a few friends had said. All 3 of them their kids weaned themself within a few months.

  • I am also 5 weeks and still nursing right now.  My son is 11 months old.  He is only nursing in the morning and at night as is.  The past two nights I have given him a bottle at night for the first time.  It seems that he is weaning himself.  I don't think I am producing as much milk as normal.  Don't worry about the uterine contractions-that won't make a significant difference until the third trimester.  Anyway, it seems like my son is weaning himself.  Good luck and don't stress-women have nursed throughout entire pregnancies for centuries.
