Growth spurt or start of a bad habit?

DD has STTN 6 hours since she was 2 weeks old. In the last week, she's been up ever 2.53 hours. For the most part I feed her and she goes back to sleep. Of course I am happy to feed her if she's hungry EBF... But is there a way for me to know when the growth spurt is over? I'm worried that if I feed her every time she wakes she will get used to that and stop STTN. I've tried getting her to go back without feeding and it works but then she'll be up again in another hour or less.
Thank you!!

That tells me that she's legit hungry. Keep feeding her! K just went through a growth spurt last week. For about 6-7 nights, he was up 2-3 times to eat instead of just his usual one. I would give it a little time...I *think* it's still too early to worry about night eating habits.

  • I've been wondering the same thing about DS.  He goes to sleep for the night around 7 but wakes up around 8-8:30 and seems to need to eat (he'll fuss until I feed him, rather than just taking the paci and going back to sleep).  I just don't think he's getting much milk since I have just fed him an hour prior and it's the evening so my supply is low anyway.  But, he does go back to sleep after the feeding so we are just going with it for now.  I am worried it's creating a bad habit though. I plan to ask the pediatrician at his check-up on Monday, but I do think watermellens is right.
  • I'm having the same issue. We're on night 11 and it's not getting better. However we're on night 11 of full time crib sleeping too. He has slept 8-9+ hours most nights since he was 8 weeks old and now is up 2-4 times per night. He wakes up upset and can't be soothed any other way than feeding. I'm also worried I'm creating a bad habit but don't know what else to do. I thought growth spurts lasted less than a week. Pedi was no help. She said to offer him a bottle of water because he wouldn't like it and it would teach him he can't have a snack every time he wakes up. I'm obviously not going to do that! I ebf too. He also eats all the time during the day and is fussier than usual so who knows if it's teething, growth spurt, 4 month wakeful etc. I'm going crazy. DS is 19 weeks. I wish I had some advice but at least you're not alone!
  • Same situation over here. Not sure what it is, but it's getting old! :P

I try giving the paci each time he wakes up, and if he spits it out, it usually means he's hungry, and I'll nurse him.

It's also hit or miss with how many times he wakes up, which is really frustrating. Two nights ago he woke up every 2 hours (I almost died), and then last night he only woke up once at 1:30, but I WOKE UP at 4 because I guess I'm used to waking up more. Yeah, that sucked.
