I had a great vaginal delivery!

Hi ladies! I wanted to post a few weeks ago but as you all know it has been busy busy since our DS and DD arrived. I had them on June 18th both vaginally and I am happy to say it only took me 15 minutes to deliver! Now as far as the labor part goes that took about 13 hours for me to dilate. I waited until 7 cm to get my epi and when I stopped dilating on my own at 9 cm I was given pitocin. I am so happy my delivery went as planned.

Life has been good in regards to the twins sleeping and eating at the same time. They're exclusively breastfed for now. My biggest challenge has been what to do with my 23 month old while the twins are nursing. I find it to be extremely challenging. I have tried the activity box but he is so used to me doing the activites with him that he won't play on his own. He doesn't rely 100 percent on me interacting with him yet because my DH took 3 weeks off so he has been a HUGE help.

I am so nervous for when my husband goes back to work. I hope I can still give my son the attention he needs as well as the twins. Any advice from you experienced twin mamas would be like winning the lottery.

This exactly! I was worried it was going to be some sad story about postpartum vaginas. But, I'm so glad it's a great story about a healthy delivery and some happy NB twins!

  • My older kids were old enough when I had the twins but my eldest was 3 when I had my second son and that was hard enough dealing with one newborn and an active toddler. I will say that a little tv won't kill him and if you are able to hire a mother's helper to come and take care of babies so you can have some 1:1 time would be helpful! Good luck and congrats on your new babies!!

DS is 21 months. I spend every moment the twins are napping with him.

  • Congrats!! How big were they? If you posted the stats before I must have missed them.

Does your older child like to color? Maybe he or she could color pictures for the new babies?

  • Congrats on the twins and the hysterical, "I had a great vagina..." mobile title. Hahaha. I hope youre feeling good and I will be checking this post to figure out what ideas people have. My DH only plans on taking a week off and Im already nervous about trying to figure out what to do with 2 older ones while feeding the twins.

  • Omg that is hilarious!!! I didn't realize that until I logged in through my phone Haahah! My twins were baby girl 6lbs 5 oz and baby boy was 4lbs 7 oz, he had a shortened umbilical cord. I think I'm going to have to go the tv route as of right now. I will post what works for us once I have a week down on my own without dh to help. I am and have been making sure to play with my oldest when the twins are napping so that's good. It's going to be a challenge when they're a few months old and more awake needing attention. But for now well take it one day at a time.

  • Congratulations on your healthy LOs and good luck w/ the toddler-juggling! It definitely sounds like a challenge but I'm sure you'll do great!

  • Congrats! Our twins were also born vaginally and were 7 minutes apart.  Like you, I was so happy to do it this way.  Our girls are 8 weeks today and our DS is 27 months. Honestly, I find the most challenging thing to do is to entertain our 2 year old right now.  For the most part we watch a couple of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse shows in the morning, then we go upstairs and get ready for the day.  I do try to engage him in whatever I'm doing...whether it's doing the kids laundry or cleaning.  I just talk to him as I go and he has develped his language skills dramatically in the 3 months I've been home now.  We also color and TRY to make basic art projects, read a couple of stories, but I would be lying if I said it wasn't hard.  It's sooo hard.  I just worry that he'll feel less important, but I try to compensate with it by telling him I love him all the time throughout the day and lots of hugs & kisses.

We also were bringing him to daycare still 2 half days a week, so that was a help.  However, this week is his last week and our nanny will be starting to come in a few hours a week, to get adjusted before I head back to work in late Aug.

Good Luck! It's definitely trial and error.  I would just suggest talking to him a lot so he knows your paying attention to him even during feeding times etc.
