Hello, I have a 10 month old son, and have been lurking here for a while. I usually wear him in a boba, but have been getting brave and am thinking about trying to wrap him. I would like to make my own, what are your fabric suggestions? I saw the post below about fabric for a ring sling, but wasn't sure if a wrap would be better with a different fabric. For those who have made your own wraps any suggestions for a newbie?
Re: Fabric for a wrap.
I always base projects like this over what's in the bargain bin at Fabricland. I made a cotton gauze wrap for DS when he was a newborn - which was good, as I discovered for less than $10 that I really didn't like trying to wrap.
I'd look for a fabric that looks good on both sides (tablecloth tends to be good for this) in cotton or linen. Osnaburg seems to be the "go to" recommendation. Buy 6 yards and wash and dry it before you measure and cut your wrap dimensions.

Osnaburg. That said, with the weight of a 10-month-old you might want to try wrapping with a wrap truly woven for babywearing (that only stretches on the diagonal) to get a feel for is wrapping is really up your alley. Do you have a babywearing group in your area? (Check here and here.)
Some of the other DIY options like gauze or jersey are going to be uncomfortable past little-baby weight. With a "real" woven, I can wear my 2.5 year old. I am not saying don't DIY, but rather if you do it and don't love it, it doesn't necessarily mean that wrapping isn't for you. If cost is the major concern, wraps for under $100 do come up on The Babywearer FSOT regularly.
