Water broke but no contractions yet!

So i was due Tuesday and my water broke yesterday at 930 at night I had lost my mucous plug at around 4 in the afternoon. Fluids been leaking since then sporadically, called the doc at like 10 and he said to wait til contractions got to 511 or if they hadn't progressed by 6 am to come on in well it's 430 and still no contractions! I'm gonna go for a walk and see if that starts them anyone else have this happen to them? I happen to live in the town with America's oldest 4th of July parade so regardless I will be heading to the hospital before 7 since traffic will be a nightmare but just wondering what others experiences have been : thanks all!!!

This happened to my friend. Her water broke one morning and she went hours with nothing and tried everything she could at home to jump start things. She went into the hospital that evening and they initially wanted to try pitocin, but they started with Cervidil instead. The Cervidil did the trick and contractions started right up. I know all bodies are different, but this was my buddy's experience. Good luck!

Thank you! I'd like to avoid pitocin so thanks for that advice! I'm sure doc will have recommendations but good to know what one of them may be :

I don't have any personal experience but I'm wondering why you were asked to stay home? My Doc's instruction is to go to the hospital as soon as my water breaks. With or without contractions.

Mrsebay not sure, but my friend whose water broke yesterday and had contractions was also told to wait until morning or until contractions were 511 I think the thought is to labor at home as much as possible.

This happened to my sister. They had to start pitocin. Hopefully contractions will start up on their own soon though.

Yes, this happen to meet 3 weeks ago when I had my son! My water broke at 1pm and contractions didn't start until about 9pm that night! My hospital admitted me after they confirmed it was indeed my water breaking! I was a little nervous because he wasn't due till July 12 and he came a month early!

With my first daughter, my water broke at 10:30 at night. I was told to come right in, but contractions never started on their own for me. They put in a vaginal suppository of cervadil for a while to thin out my cervix, which did that but didn't start contractions. They ended up starting pitocin which definitely did the trick! Good luck!

As long as you keep hands and objects out of your vagina and cervix there is no risk for infection which is mostly why they ask you to come in ASAP. If my water breaks without contractions ill stay home for awhile and just make sure I stay hydrated.

No real advice but good luck! Also you must live in Bristol, RI...America's oldest 4th parade... My family lives there and I have many fond memories growing up watching that parade on Hope St munching on clam cakes. What a cool day to have a baby. Congrats and hope you have an easy labor

My water broke with li and I wasn't having contractions and I wasn't dilated. They gave me pitocin and a cervical balloon... 10 hours later we had a baby! Good luck!

My midwives would have let me labor at home for awhile waiting for contractions for up To 24 hours before induction had i not been pre term. Risk of infection doesn't really start to worry them until 24 hours. I think it's pretty normal... Every doc is different but unless they want to induce you immediately, which I side eye, what's the point of going in immediately as long as everyone is healthy and the pregnancy is normal?

This. However, I was told to come in right away since I tested GBS positive this time around, so sometimes it depends on your personal situation.

Aml yes! I do live in Bristol! At the hospital now and they started pitocin an hour ago since I'd already gone 12 hours with no contractions and was still only dilated to one cm they said that was the only choice...so hoping she comes today still! Thanks for all the comments ladies : I'm a frequent lurker but was always convinced this would be a June baby since that was docs opinion...good luck to everyone who is still waiting to have their little ones, I know the anxiety nearly killed me as I'm not patient but here we are only hourshopefully away from meeting our little girl Mackenzie :
