Okay, I am going to be sorting and returning things that I have too many of and getting things I need this weekend. I need some BTDT advice on quantities for a few things, I'm putting what I was thinking I needed... mainly to give you all a laugh:
Bottles - 16 of each size (I'm ff-ing)
Crib Sheets - 14
Sheet protector pads - 4
Pacis - 20 of each size
Blankets - 16
Towels - 8 (my adult towels aren't very soft)
Bath Tub - 1
Formula - 1 tub of the top three brands (Enfamil, Similac and whatever they recommend as an allergy one) then I'll buy more when I know what they like
Obviously I have clothes, but if I find I need more/less I'll be making trips to goodwill, so I'm not too worried. I also have my big gear stuff (cribs, PNP, car seats, stroller, bassinets, tons of diapers, monitors, health kit)
Re: Post Shower Gift Question
Damn! I had a whole reply and my computer freaked on me.
Crib sheets. We started with about a dozen. I cut up 2 for valances (long story there!) and I think we could get by with about 6 or 8. We used the BRU protectors and that really helped. For us, it was more about spit up than poop, but to me, they were essential. They are drip dry, though, so if you think they're a good idea, you'll want to take that into account.
Pacis. I have one who never used one and one who still does on and off. We have probably been through about 6 pacis total in 8 months. What we found to be a big help are the paci clips. When she was using it regularly, it was always attached to her outfit with the clip (obvious exception of nap/bedtime). Personally, 20 is way overkill, especially since you will get some at the hospital.
Bottles. Hold off on investing in these until you know what brand your LOs like. And when you knjow what their preference is, go straight for the 9oz and don't look back. I can't think of one reason to have the smaller sizes. Yes, they come with the appropriate flow nipples, but you can buy those separately also. We were fortunate to have received a stash of Playtex VentAires from friends and that the girls took to them. Right now, we have about 27 in regular circulation, but the girls are in DC and this gives us a cushion (they go through about 6/day each).
We had 6 towels and did bath every other day. That has worked well for us. My girls are 8 months and have pretty much outgrown their baby bath towels, although we still use them. We just can't wrap them up like burritos anymore.
I agree with the PP on the formula. The hospital will make sure you have plenty and this is something you, your H, or a family member can go for once you get home. My only advice there is that once you find a brand that works for you, stick with it.
Hm, I really enjoyed answering this. Thanks for asking and good luck!
I hated pacis as well. I'd suck for a few seconds, realize there was no milk and spit it out
Not a BTDT mom, but I think, based on the research I've done and MoMs I've talked to that you are going a little overboard.
Bottles - 16 of each seems like a lot, but I'm planing to BF, so I'm not much help there. But don't stock up now - you have no idea what kind is going to work for your boys/your fam.
Crib sheets - 8 max
Sheet protector pads - do you mean waterproof mattress pad? I'd agree with 4 if so
Pacis - 6 of each size max, but, just like bottles, I wouldn't stock up now. You have no idea what kind your boys will like, if they even like pacis.
Blankets - 6, plus you'll get some from the hospital
Towels - 8 sounds good
Tub - 1 sounds good
Formula - you could start with 1 kind at a time. You may not need to try every kind.
