We bought a travel system with T and it was fine. It was a little bulky for me. I'm wanting to buy a smaller seat this time. I'm looking at the Chicco KeyFit 30 and getting a double stroller to accommodate that.
I love my baby trend travel system. It is really useful becsuse they sleep in them a lot when they're infants. Check out stores like Dirt Cheap and Bargain Hunt. Often they will have unopened baby items that have been returned from target. I got my infant carrier for 40, the matching jogging stroller for 40 and an extra base for 15 all brand new from the Dirt Cheap in tuscsloosa. Would've cost well over 200 if I had bought then from target or babies r us. I do know some people that use the complete convertible seats and then carry the baby around in one of those baby Bjornes or wraps. That didn't work for me because my chest is too big but my husband loved walking around with it.
I can't imagine not having the infant seat when my girls were babies. They both used it until around 9 months. Like someone else said, they sleep in it all the time so you can just carry them in sleeping instead of waking them up. Plus, it gives you somewhere to put them in restaurants, grocery stores, etc.

We were told by the car seat installation officer that an infant seat is much better at protecting a young infant without head control and to keep them in it until they reach the max height or weight limits. We used an infant seat with DD and switched her to a convertible carseat around 11 months. Also they recommend rear facing until height and weight limits are reached but a minimum of two years. We'll keep DD rear facing as long as possible. We were told rear facing until 4 years old, when spine finally hardens, is 500 percent safer than front facing.
