We used prune juice for a few months then switched to pear which I guess is easier on their little tummies but I would start with 2 oz juice/4 oz milk or formula bottle, wait a few hours then just add 1 oz to each bottle until LO went (and they were usually spectacular to have the bath tub ready).
If its a constant problem vs just occasional, we now use the pear juice to thin out the thicker purees LO eats. Just helps keep things moving along in there as we add new foods.
Had asked at the 6mo appt about using the juice for constipation. LOs pedi said to avoid juice all together, instead reccomended an over the counter drink that is non habit forming and will help to end the constipation. Just cannot remember what it was.
My little guy has had terrible constipation since I stopped BFing at 4 months. We add 1 oz of pear juice to 6 oz. of formula twice a day. We also feed prune puree several times a week. This has helped a lot, but he still has issues.
