Mattress for PNP for older babies

My son is 17 months and about 25 lbs.  We have a Graco PNP and will be going on a week long vacation this summer with hopes that he will sleep in the PNP but I think the mattress that it came with is too hard for him now that he's older and weighs more.  I want him to sleep comfortably while we are on vacation.  Has anyone tried the mattresses that fit the PNP that are a little thicker?

I'm thinking of one like this:

Will you be able to travel with that??  I think that is meant for daycares where it stays set up.

  • I made a topper for our pnp out of a 2 inch thick twin size memory foam mattress pad. We had it laying around and just cut it to fit the pnp mattress. When we travel I just roll it up. We've also flown with our pnp and the topper in a duffle bag. I was able to get two toppers out of one twin size memory foam. DD sleeps well on it.

My mom did this for the pnp she keeps at her house because whatever brand her's is seems extra hard. I actually just use a fluffy blanket folded up to fit under the sheet that I put on the pnp when we travel. It gives some extra padding and is easy to fold up in a suitcase.

  • we have a similar one (not sure what the difference is):

it was fantastic. we took it with us on all driving vacations when DS was in an PNP. it's bulky, but worth it.
