February 2014 Moms

"Prego", it's what's for dinner.

Disclaimer: this question is not intended to be snarky or rude in any way at all.

That being said, I am bored at work and am genuinely curious if others feel the same way I do. Here goes: I absolutely positively despise the term "prego". I think it makes pregnancy sound "cutesy" and even kind of sounds condescending to me. I cringe every time somebody says it or when I see it. I also think of spaghetti sauce and it drives me crazy!! Now, I have not really seen anybody use it on this board and if you do, it's your prerogative, but I wanted to get some opinions from you ladies, whether you agree with my hatred or not. Haha

Re: "Prego", it's what's for dinner.

  • I hate the term too. I don't care about making pregnancy "cutesy" I just hate it because it's a stupid word, haha. I also hate preggers. I think you'll find that most people on here don't like it.

It never really bothered me. I'm more annoyed with the word "panties" odd but true. My mom called me prego and waddles through my last pregnacy so maybe that's why.

Haha, I never say "panties"! I always say "underwear". I'm not a fan either. My eye always twitches a tiny bit when my 5 yo SD tells me she needs new "panties".

I only refer to myself as pregnant... or preggeroni and cheese.

I love this!! Preggeroni and cheese!
  • There was a clicky pill about this a few weeks ago. You are NOT alone. I can't stand it either.

    Oh! Makes sense now!
  • I say panties, but only when I'm talking about mens underwear.

It's much more fun to call them panties than boxers. Just saying.

  • I rarely use it...doesn't bother me as much as "preggers" does.

  • Yes, it sounds juvenile to me. I teach high school and the pregnant teens used it all the time.

I'm not surprised. When I hear the word "prego", I think of pregnant teenagers.

Hate the word "prego", don't mind "preggers" though.

  • My husband says he plays a game called "Prego" when he's running a pregnancy test on his patients in the ED. Like a game on The Price is Right... If it's positive he'll holler "PREGO!" Haha!! He doesn't do this in front of the patient btw...lol!

When I took my first test, I gave it to him to read, and unfortunately he said, "Oh well it looks like you're preggers." Yuck! I don't like that word either!
