Insurance vent

Okay we have really good insurance, but I just checked all my recent statements online (wanted to see if they covered all of the Verifi test) and turns out they have denied every OB visit since the end of May. Seriously?!

They have now sent me 4 letters this year requesting me to verify if I have other insurance or not. I have filled them out every time and sent them back and have even had a phone call regarding this. For the love of G, I do not have other insurance! I am on DH's insurance and have been for 2 years. I get that I changed jobs last September (was with my previous company for 7 years) and that they needed to verify that I am not under my new employer's insurance, but we have been through that.

They have been paying all of this year. Why suddenly in May would that have changed?! Seriously I hate the whole US insurance system. We pay our insurance premiums, don't cheat the system, do what they ask, have everything in network and pre-authorized and still they find a way to try to get out of it. It will all get cleared up and they will pay, but I should send them a bill for my hourly rate for the time it will take me to go back and clean this up and for wasting my time and my OB's office staff's time!

Sorry I had to rant somewhere. Thanks for listening.

  • I am sorry, I know how frustrating this could be. Best of luck and I hope it all works out. I hate insurance companies.

  • That is frustrating. I would CALL and tell them you have no other insurance and they should reprocess all those denied claims for you.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if all those visits triggered an automatic "check for coverage" inquiry.  Prenatal care and labor and delivery costs really add up, so it's not surprising that an insurance company would want to avoid paying them if it didn't have to.  Heck, mine knows that it doesn't have to cover them - maternity care is specifically excluded from my policy - and they still went on a paperwork freakout a few weeks ago.  It's tedious and stressful.

  • Sometimes for OB care the insurance company only pays one bundled bill for all prenatal care, and won't reimburse for every visit.  Maybe that's the issue?
