Questions about ASD & federal and state programs

My child was recently diagnosed with ASD and is on the waiting list to be covered by a waiver for services.  I was told that a disability determination was needed (filled out a form) and that ultimately they also needed to be on Medicaid (also filled out that form).  I am just worried I am not doing everything I am supposed to do.  Do I also fill out a form for Social Security for a disabled child?  What programs do you put your child on that has ASD?  Help!  I am new to all of this and don't want to miss any important steps for my child to receive services.  Thanks!
