Single Parents

Boy vs. Girl

I have my anatomy scan tomorrow and I'm totally freaked out about finding out baby's gender. I definitely want to know but I'm kind of worried about raising a boy as a single mother. I have a few guy friends, but no super close men that can be good role models.

Beyond that I've nannied for 15 years and always had a harder time connecting with boys as opposed to girls. My BFF says this one will be genetically engineered to connect with me!:::mobile smiley:::

Any single parent thoughts about how great boys are that will ease my mind? Or at least let me know I'm not a terrible person for having this worry?

  • So exciting! Finding out is always so much fun! I don't have any wisdom for you other than the fact I have two boys and love them! Don't worry, it will be fine either way!

  • Thanks ladies. Also, thanks for not judging me as awful. I know I'll be in love no matter what, I already am! It's just one of those weird FTM things I guess.

  • Finding out the sex can be so much fun! yay! :) and don't worry you'll love and connect to your baby regardless of gender. lol. I was actually more worried about having a girl over a boy but I'm having a girl and I couldn't be more excited now!

  • I am a single parent by choice to two boys. I do have a good support system of guys in my life (brother and close friends), you will figure it out, I promise. I make sure that I keep the boys involved in activities where there are male role models (such as Cub Scouts and martial arts). In Cub Scouts, I specifically requested a male den leader since a lot of the leaders are mothers; but it has never been a problem. I honestly would be worried about having girls at this point Smile

Mother of two wonderful boys! Blessed through adoption.

  • That's funny - I was afraid of raising a girl when I got pg! Boys are awesome, and just think - you'll never have to buy him a training bra or tampons Wink

Also, when they're young, sex is just anatomy. The happy thing about parenting is the gradual process. You'll do just fine, regardless of your kiddo's sex Smile
