3-4 day rule

So I've been trying to follow this when introducing new foods to DD to check for allergies. I'm wondering how many of you all have been doing this and how long do you plan to continue it? It doesn't seem realistic for EVERY food. We did start yogurt this morning which worries me, I'm not sure why, I just think her little tummy can't handle the dairy. . .

Re: 3-4 day rule

  • We are doing BLW so no waiting here. And very rarely repeat foods 2 days in a row, unless it's leftovers.

With DD I started out doing 3 days. But that quickly changed to 2. Then 1. DD never seemed to have a reaction to anything so I wasn't concerned.

For you, if there has already been a reaction, then you do what you feel most comfortable with.

IMO the 3 day rule is a guideline.

  • We don't wait, and definitely scared some members of my parents' generation when I told them that we gave V *gasp* strawberries.

  • We haven't followed this rule.  We're doing purees and a little BLW (which I'm not liking at all).  He has had all kinds of foods and no problems yet.
  • I used to wait

now I dont, but with peanuts Ill wait bc my brother and i are allergic.

  • No waiting here. If it's an iffy food, I wait until the weekend and give during the day.

I think of it more as a suggestion.

  • I waited the first few times, then started introing only 1 new food a day, then she had a reaction, so I'm back to a new food every 2-3 days.  I think once we get through the big 8 allergens, then I'll stop waiting again.  but I think she is (unfortunately) on the sensitive side, so we're going with "better safe than sorry" for now...

If your LO hasn't had reactions, though, I don't think you need to wait the full window all the time
