Quirky Sleeper

For the past three nights, DS insists that he sleep on my right side, which just so happens to be the outside of the bed. If I switch him to the middle of the bed, even if he wants the other/top breast, he fidgets and fusses and crawls back over me to sleep on the outside.

We have a bedrail so he's safe, but I'm so curious to see if any of your LOs did this.

He also has recently gone from kicking off all blankets to insisting he has some pulled up to his chin, and he now likes to put his head on my pillow. Oh, and "night night" has just been added to his vocabulary, and he asks to go night night all the time...all. the. time.

He thinks it's so fun to snuggle under the blankets with his head on a pillow like a big boy. I get that, but my right hip is tired, I only sleep well while facing him, and I want to put him in the middle of the bed, gosh darn it!

What's going on? Normal? Developmental? Is he just quirky? Could it be an ear infection or something bad? Thanks!

Re: Quirky Sleeper

  • We don't bed share, but I noticed that DD started developing distinct sleeping preferences close to her second birthday.  Even though it's hot in our house (no ac) she insists on being covered by a blanket, pillow under her head, stuffed giraffe next to her and a book to read.  Usually as soon as she falls asleep the blanket is kicked off, and everything else has been tossed aside. I think it's normal for them to develop sleep preferences, no need to worry, other than the pain in your hip!
