Baby Showers

shower food

Hey Ladies-

Just curious about what is planned or what you had for food at your shower?  My SIL and sister are planning mine and originally wanted just sweet and "little bites" such as meatballs and finger sandwiches......is this sufficient? Or do you go all out with party platters, etc?

 TIA

Well, it depends on the time of day the shower is thrown.  And even if you have "little bites", you still need to have enough to comfortably feed your guests. "LIttle bites" doesn't necessarily mean cheaper, if that's what they are thinking.

  • They're planning a 1pm shower on a Saturday.  I don't think that its appropriate to just go with the menu they're setting but I know they're on a budget and I feel bad intervening.  I'm going to have to because I just don't think its going to cut it......bring on the drama.
  • Why don't you suggest that 2pm would actually work better for you if they haven't sent the invitations out and feel them out for how'd they'd feel about that

  • My sisters were on a budget for the shower they threw me, but managed to have a lovely spread that was cost efficient. They bought a spiral cut ham and cooked it in the crockpot, then got a few loaves of good bread from a local bakery, cut thin for sandwiches, and then a variety of deli cheeses. They already had most of the condiments on hand, and served a few side salads (fruit salad, macaroni salad, etc) to go with the sandwiches. Nothing super fancy, but a few nice upgrades went a long way, and it was delicious.

  • There were sandwiches, chips and dip, fruit, deviled eggs, and a relish tray at mine.
    And cake!

  • Tell them that 2:00PM would work better for you. It will be fine.

If I receive an invitation to go to a party at 1pm, I understand that it will be served lunch.

If the invitation is around 2pm, I understand that will not be lunch... it will be little bites.

You don't need to create drama. Explain that pushing one our it would help people to understand that will not be lunch. Maybe they don't see it like that. Make your point, and if they cannot change, it is ok... but at least you tried!

    Best wishes
