Pregnant after 35

I'm new! I'm 39! I'm excited! I'm nervous!

This has been so comforting to read everyone's posts, because everytime something happens I think something is wrong.  Cramps and gas pain kinda feel the same, right?

I'm just 9 weeks today and waiting to tell most people (only family and few friends know at this point).  But I want to shout it!  Big Smile

Tomorrow's my first appointment and dying to know that our baby is doing well. My husband (SO? ...I don't understand all the acronyms yet!) and I were lucky, we got preggos soon after we tried, we just got started on marriage and babies later than our friends!  But I still worry because of my age. :/

Thanks everyone for taking time to post and share!  It really helps newly preggos like me feel better!

  • Welcome and congrats! We can all relate to the worry, especially those of us who have experienced previous losses. It's quite the rollercoaster! I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

  • Thanks everyone!  Well the appt was a whirlwind...so much info.  They said I didn't need another ultrasound b/c I had one done at 7 weeks (got called in early b/c I was spotting).  Doc said from those pictures, baby is smaller than most 7 weekers (yikes!) but b/c they saw heartbeat so he's not worried...but I can't stop thinking about it!  Wish they did another one Confused

I'm still spotting, but during my pelvic exam her said my cervix is sensitive, so that's why I'm spotting.  Then urine and prenatal panel blood tests.  Guess everyone's appts are different.

Thanks again for all the support and good wishes!  I will pray for all of us to have healthy and happy pregnancies!  Cheers!

  • Congrats to you!!  I am 38 and also pregnant with my first!  I'm 12w3d, but I'm also super nervous.  It does seem to be getting better, though!!

  • Hey I'm 39 also! Pregnant with number 6 for our family :) Very excited. Our youngest is 6 and my husband had a vasectomy right after her birth. Last month we had a reversal done and got pregnant immediately! I'm just four weeks. Due March 10. Good luck to you!
  • Yay, welcome. I'm still somewhat a newbie here, too; but, since I'm due this Sat., I have been writing posts like mad--anxious, I guess. I was 39 this Oct. when I conceived, 40 since Dec. Been married 14 years and this was a natural pregnancy, totally a surprise since we weren't half-heartedly even trying but for the last 2. We had our 1st sonogram and found out for sure that I was 9.5 weeks.

You will learn a lot, hear a lot of differing opinions, BUT...it's an adventure. You will also meet many who have suffered losses. Anxiety is normal; heck, my DH and I have never even changed a diaper and I don't think we ever thought we'd have a child. Now, all the joy, anticipation, EVERYTHING, has brought a new purpose and instincts are finally with us.

Have a great pregnancy and enjoy!!!!!

  • Congrats!  Chances are that all will be well for you! Good luck!

  • Hi! I'm 39 too. In fact I know this baby was conceived on my 39th bday. I don't think my husband really intended to give me such a "gift"
So I'm almost 6 weeks. Feeling great so far just super tired!! Praying I don't get MS in the weeks to come.
My Ob doesn't want to see me until 8 weeks. It's hard to wait that long! What kind of testing is standards/ your Dr. for older moms?
    Congrats and best wishes!!
  • My OB doesn't really treat me any different b/c of my age, he said b/c I'm healthy with no siginificant medical history.  At my first visit, I got a urine and prenatal blood panel done...not sure what specific tests are, but I asked the lab for a copy of the labs to be mailed to me.  This is standard per my OB.  That's all I did at my 1st visit so far.

I know, I wished I was seen sooner too.  I got a bunch of books that helped with all my questions.  My mom and a few good friends (haven't told all my friends yet!) have been good sounding boards. And this group has been helpful!  Good luck!

  • Congrats!! We just found out yesterday ourselves that the IVF worked! I'm 38 and this is our very first pregnancy ever. I'm only about 4 weeks now and soooo nervous but very happy too. We only told close immediate family and friends since they've been with us through it all and have been supportive. Did you guys get preggers on your own? Or IVF?
  • Welcome and congrats! I'm 39 and 8 weeks 4 days pregnant with our first. We're over the moon but sometimes I think we may be crazy at our age. But crazy in a fun, adventurous kind of way!
    Baby #1 due 2/10/14!
  • Hey, I just turned 39 too and am 10 wks along with my first pregnancy. We've tried for many years about 8 and I had given up on it happening. Got weighed today and I've gained no weight in the last 4 wks. They were ok with it, but still. It's so hard to not constantly worry. It will be ok. We just have got to keep saying it. Good luck and happiness with everything.
  • Congrats! So glad everything worked out so well for you! Wish you a calm, hopefully pain free delivery
  • Congrats!!!! I'm also 39 and 30 weeks pregnant with baby 9 we are so thrilled.. Our oldest is 22 and the youngest is 2. Each one of our children are blessings! You will be in my prayers:
  • Congratulations!!  You'll be just fine.  I will be almost 48 when I deliver and this is my first pregnancy...conceived naturally.  My pregnancy has been great, basically little to no symptoms at all.  The doctors worry more than I do.  I did get GD, but we have managed this pretty well and I will not have a large baby.  I am due in 2 weeks and I am still doing everything I have always done, including weed eating, mowing, working the garden and I have more energy now than in my 2nd trimester.  Maybe it's just me.   I wish you the very best!

I'm 39 as well with my first. I am 7 weeks. Nervous myself, but happy thoughts make a happy baby I hear!
