Ikea cribs??

We are thinking of getting one for baby2 so I'm just wondering if anyone has any input on them? I know they all have to be up to the same safety standards but my grandma and aunt keep saying I should buy one and I don't see why not

Re: Ikea cribs??

  • I love our Ikea crib. Safe, simple, and affordable.

  • We have one.  They tend to be streamlined, clean, simple and sturdy with a smaller profile.  They have rated well for safety over the years and recently their whole inventory was revised to comply with new federal safety regulations.  I prefer the IKEA cribs to the chunky, huge traditional styles that you tend to see in the baby stores.

We use them at our cottage.  They are safe and secure.  I really like the lower profile.

We bought for at our house, American Restoration Hardware.  My DH asked me what I wanted, and then told me I could order it.   The whole nursery for two is from there.

Yup. I prefer the simpler Eurostyle cribs and finding an affordable crib without a headboard (which I loathe) was a serious challenge. The Ikea crib and mattress have both worked great for us.

  • We have one and it's working well for us so far.  I like the fact that it has a small footprint.

    A few things I don't like:

    1) it only has 2 levels, so once DS can pull himself up, we'll have to lower it to the lowest level, which I suspect will be a strain on my back putting him down and lifting him up.

    2) We got the sundvik, which I liked (before DS was born) because of the 2 solid panels on the short ends of the crib.  However, I don't like them as much now as DS is constantly rolling around and he will bang his arms/legs/head whatever against the solid board to make sound.

  • Our baby hasn't come yet, but we bought and have put together the Gulliver. We have a modern nursery and like the clean lines and affordability.

  • I totally wanted one, but they discontinued the Sundvik. I ended up finding something similar (I actually ended up liking it better) it is the BabyMod Modena. Almost the same price as Ikea, simple design, not gigantic, etc. I didn't want bars all the way around either so I liked the Sundvik and the Modena. Otherwise the Gulliver looks cute too!

  • We have been using the Gulliver for ten months now and love it! we also got the cheapest Ikea crib mattress available (I think it cost $35) and the baby's still in one piece.
  • They seem nice to me, the safety standards are what matters and all cribs meet them, so if you like the aesthetics I don't see why not. I am thinking of getting one a second crib to use at my Mom's house, I want something under $100.

  • I was all set to buy an ikea crib until I went to see it is person.  They are VERY low to the ground.  Not ideal for tall me and DH.

    I'd look around...
