Babies on the Brain

MY grandmother-in-law says...

She really hopes we wait until the delivery to find out if it's a boy or girl and that if it is a girl we name it after her.

DH says if she wants to be surprised we just won't tell her the gender. And by no means are we naming it after her.

Whew! I love when I don't have to pick my battles, they are fought for me. Crisis averted. Big Smile

  • May I ask what her name is?

  • Wow, that's kind of gutsy!  On GMIL's part, that is.  Good for DH for standing up to her.
  • My grandmother didn't want us to find out what our two were either.  I told her she didn't really have a choice on that but that if she didn't want to know then we would try and make sure no one told her.  That seemed to work pretty well actually... until she decided 2 days after we found out that she wanted to know.  Haha.  I don't know what I would have said if she asked us to name them after her.

    Mattie.

And it's funny  Madelyn used to be one of my top girl's names. But I have scratched it out b/c it sounds too much like hers. There's a history.

  • i hear ya, Tara.  You just don't want to associate your child's name with bad things.  There are many names that have had to be scratched off the list.
  • That's hilarious (and mighty presumptuous, I might add) of your grandmother! These older ladies... they crack me up.

exactly. Specifically older southern ladies who feel younger generations must honor their elders.

I'll treat her with respect but please don't tell me how to raise my child. <-- I only say that b/c I feel it coming.

  • Oh man. LOL. Better you than me.

  • Wow. I think this may beat the post the other day from the girl who was given BC from her MIL!

It was a good one too. Apparently, the OP was already pregnant and the MIL knew it....explain that one.

That being said, I still think you win.

  • Oh my! What a good DH.

My mother says that when we find out, not that were KU yet, that she wants us to keep it a secret.  I told her ok, I won't tell you.
