Hi again!
I am REALLY freaked out about driving 3 hours to CT tomorrow, possibly way more if there is traffic. It will just be me and screaming babies (if the car is stopped). My husband will be traveling separately.
I was thinking about getting the headrest DVD players. Do you think this will be worth the investment? My friend has them and her kids love them. They are about $200 i think. I will be really stressed if I am sitting in traffic for hours with crying babies.
Also, would you be a germ-freak if your kids were crawling around a hotel room all weekend. Would YOU put down blankets or sheets? Although the idea skeeves me out, I am not sure that is over the top.
Thank you!!!!

Re: Vacation questions
Odds are you're worrying for nothing. I wouldn't get the headrest DVD players, but I would get a mirror if you don't already have one. My daughter is much happier in the car when she has her mirror and a few toys (cloth book, ball, and a rattle of some kind). On long road trips, we've used music CDs to calm her down, and it's worked really well. Baby Einstein's World Music can usually stop her crying fits.
I would also give them each a sippy cup of water, within easy reach (even though they'll probably throw it out of reach soon enough).
As for the hotel room, I would let my daughter roam freely, but I'm the mother that lets her daughter lick the cart at the grocery store, and who only made a face when she put an ant in her mouth the other day at the park... I believe exposure to germs will be good for her long-term.
I think that babies don't have a very long attention span, so the DVD player won't work for that long. It probably will entertain them for a bit, but not the whole three hours. I would try to time the drive it around nap time. I think that is your best bet. The DVD players would definitely work as the kids get older.
As for the hotel sheets. Do you bring your own sheets for yourself? If you don't change the sheets for yourself, then you don't need to for your kids. Hotels do have strict rules about cleaning sheets and hotel rooms.
On the other hand, if you are using a hotel pack and play for the babies, I have been in several hotels where they did not have a sheet for it at all or they used a regular bed sheet rather than a fitted sheet. So if you are using a hotel pack and play, then you might want to bring a fitted sheet for it.
My kid doesn't pay attention to TV yet so I wouldn't spend the money on those portable DVD players yet.
I personally would probably bring a large blanket to throw on the floor just to add more comfort but my kid doesn't crawl so she would just sit on the blanket. If your kids are crawling its probably a waste of packing space for you.
GL!
