Backpack and lunchbox recs for 2 y.o.

Hi everyone. We have decided to enroll my DS in preschool twice a week starting in August. Can anyone recommend a durable backpack for a toddler? I don't want something too big or too small. I bought some Fresh Lunchboxes for bento style lunches, but am looking for an insulated bag or lunchbox to send it in. Any preschool related storage recommendations are welcome! Thanks so much =)

  • We use a skip hop owl back pack and a pottery barn kids lunchbox.

  • For DS at 2, we had a Skip Hop Lunchies Box

I found the Lunchies to be quite small.  I couldn't both his "snacktime" and "lunch" in it, I was able to fit (1) juice box, (1) Sandwich & (2) Side Items in a Ziploc bag and (1) Napkin.  This was a very tight fit.  Maybe they redesigned the size, its disappointing because they are quite cute.

For a backpack we used an Elmo Mini Backpack from Target.

DS used this elmo backpack for the same purpose and DD is now carrying it around. I guess she'll use the same one in the fall for her 2 day mornings at preschool. Our preschool is only 1/2 day so we didn't have to worry about lunch. Target has some cute containers but they seem to warp a bit and not fit back together after a few rounds in the dishwasher (they are dishwasher safe).

  • Our preschool wanted us to have a regular sized backpack as the smaller ones wouldn't fit some larger art projects & such.  So you might check w/them to see if they prefer that as well. They look huge on them, but it made sense when I started getting stuff home.  I have gotten backpack/lunchbox combos from TCP & they've held  up fine- one is going on 3yrs old now...
  • Ditto on a regular sized backpack - they usually need to be large enough to fit at least a folder, plus hold their lunch and any art projects that come home.

We bought a Pottery Barn Kids backpack and lunch box and I've been really happy with both. They'll be used for several more years.
