Infertility

Questions to ask at WTF?

My WTF appointment for my IVF cycle is coming up next Monday the 8th. Just to recap, I did antagonist (follistim, ganirelix, menopur), retrieved 10, only 4 were mature, all 4 fertilized with ICSI, but the embryos were very slow growing and we had to do a 3 day transfer of two, one 4 cell, one 5 cell. The other two embryos were multinucleated, so none to freeze. Obviously, we didn't have high hopes and obviously, it didn't work. So...

What questions should I ask? My RE has already said that we would start at a lower dosage of follistim to stim longer (and hopefully get more eggs to work with) and cut out the ganirelix and add lupron. We might also do a different trigger since it didn't seem to mature my eggs.

What else should I ask about? Thanks, ladies!

Re: Questions to ask at WTF?

  • I'm sorry I don't have my advice on what to ask at your appt. (I cried miserably throughout mine and could not keep it together....was not expecting that at all, and it didn't help that my H couldn't come at the last minute due to work), but I was mostly just concerned about how my RE would do things differently next time and yours sounds like he already has a good plan in place.

I'm curious about what you used to trigger last time? I did a Lupron trigger and had bad results with number of eggs expected vs. number retrieved. Just wondered if you did the same thing.

    Good luck at your appointment!

Thanks! I know you know how this feels... I used Novarel, an HCG trigger. I also used an HCG trigger (Ovidrel) for all four of my IUIs. Now my RE thinks that it's just not maturing my eggs so I think we're going to switch to the Lupron trigger.. I'll know more after our meeting on the 8th.

Thanks- and to you too! I don't know how you find the strength and courage..I really admire you. Any advice on how to have confidence in a second IVF? I want to be hopeful, but I'm having a hard time envisioning it working. I guess my confidence in the whole thing is just so low....

So interesting about it maybe not maturing your eggs like it should. Keep us posted once you have your WTF! I also just read your post on PAIF...thanks for doing that, it helped me a lot too to read the responses. :)
