One more CIO question

I have the book and will read it before I attempt CIO, but, when you go to check on LO at the certain intervals, do you just make your presence known, but don't attempt to stop the crying? Or do you do what you need to do to stop LO from continuing to cry?  Maybe I am getting mixed up with the pick up/put down method where you pick them up and soothe them and put them back down as soon as they are soothed.

    I personally would put my hand on my LO's tummy or back, give her back her paci, and SHHH until she was calm. Then I walk out. She sometimes would immediately start crying, but I would wait the allotted time I gave myself to go back in. Usually for her, after 3 times, she would be out.

    Same. I'll stroke her head and give her kisses. The point is not to try to get them to stop crying or go to sleep when you're in there; it's just to reassure them. Sometimes my little girl will conk out as soon as I put my hand on her, though.

    How old is your LO?  Just curious because I'm jealous and trying to picture my LO do this?

    I wouldn't know. My 3 month old only fusses when she has a wet diaper or is hungry... on occasion she will get fussy when she is tired, so I just hold her and reassure her everything is okay until she falls asleep (10 minutes maybe). She doesn't use a paci, but has discovered her thumb which she readily sucks on and soothes herself.

    You may want to make sure your child is comfortable while sleeping - don't have too many layers of clothes. My kids both are most comfortable when a ceiling fan is on. I think it also provides a tiny amount of white noise. Good luck on getting your LO to sleep!
