For those that have traveled how much breast milk or formula did you bring through security. The TSA website says reasonable quantities and I was just wondering what people have gotten away with. I EP so I'd like to bring as much as I can without risking having to dump it.
Re: TSA and Breast Milk or Formula Quantities
I do not believe there is really a limit...they will just pull you aside to do a check on it (at least, that's what they did with us...they peeled the labels off the ready-to-feed bottles and tested it with some device through the bottle...)
I've gone through multiple times with ~16oz and just passed right on through, no testing.
I also put a small cooler in the bag I checked with frozen milk. I figured if it defrosted I would use that first and if not then I would have extra on hand for my trip. It stayed pretty frozen during my 8 hour trip.
This is a good idea that did not occur to me. Thanks.
I flew 3 weeks ago and did a ton of research! Breastmilk, formula and babyfood are supposed to be the exception to the liquids rule. They recommend taking only as much as you need to get to your destination. I took a few empty bottles and filled them with water after security, and I took apple juice. They did a liquid test on them but it took maybe 3 minutes. I took like 8oz of juice. They shouldn't make you dump the formula or breastmilk. If they say you have to I PERSONALLY would ask to see a supervisor because the TSA website lists baby liquids as an exception. Happy Flying!!!
