Postpartum Mama Cloth

Since my last pregnancy, I have developed an allergy to most disposable pads.  I started using mama cloth shortly after my miscarriage 6 months ago.  Now that I am pregnant again, I have started researching mama cloth options for the first 6 weeks postpartum.  Has anyone on this board used cloth pads postpartum? Any favorite brands? How many of the heavy flow/postpartum pads would you recommend?

Re: Postpartum Mama Cloth

  •  Congratulations!  What wonderful news!  I was trying to comment on your blog but my computer kept messing up.

I don't have any recs for PP, I've been wondering this too.  Couldn't one use any reusable cloth pad?  I don't know.   I've used Glad Rags and I like them ok.

Anyways,  so happy for you and happy to see you posting here.  :)  :)   :)

  • I have some Wee Essentials (etsy) and some Pampered Mama ones. The PM ones have ice packs which was nice! I still don't have my ppAF yet, so I haven't used them in a long time, but they were so much better than disposable ones! I got a rash really bad the first time around.

  • Also, I think I have 4 or 5 really heavy ones (overnight/pp ones) (2 with places for ice packs and 2 or 3 without). And a few heavy flow (but not as long) for the day. I didn't bleed as heavily the second time around (I heard that bleeding is less with cloth, but don't know if that's why). I washed them every other day with the cloth diapers. I may have had to wash the overnight ones everyday the first few days, but I just threw them in with the regular laundry. I can't remember how many of the regular and lighter flow ones I have (maybe 4 of each?). It really would depend on how often you want to do laundry!

  • Ps - now that you've brought this to my mind, I looked around a bit, and I guess the regular ones might be too small, lol.  Showing my FTMness here!  Anyways, I read pink lemonade on etsy are good...  I just ordered some so we'll see!

Aww thanks!  I had been using Luna pads  before getting pregnant, but if my postpartum bleeding is anything like with DS and DD I will definitely need a larger supply of heavy flow options.

Thanks so much!  I will definitely be checking out the pampered mama ones.  Having a spot for ice packs those first few days sounds like a really awesome perk.

  • I used a tri-folded infant size prefold diaper the first few days (meaning I just laid it in my underwear). After that, I switched to Muffies, XL size (Etsy).
  • I don't have any experience with this yet, but for regular menstrual bleeding i like party in my pants (dumb name, good product) better than any other brand/maker i've tried.

  • I was in the process of trying to make my own when I finally gave birth to my DD. Never finished them :( My flow slowed down pretty fast though, so I just switched to my regular mama cloth. I found a pattern online through VeryBaby.com and ordered some PUL and organic cotton velour they had in their scraps section. I SO wish I had finished them before I needed them - the velour is incredibly soft!
