Cloth Diapering

Quick vote needed: Coconut Oil or CJs

Hi Ladies,

I have been using coconut oil w/ no issue for diaper rash.  Then DD got a rash that would not go away and was yeast so had to switch to lotrimin 2x a day and disposables.  Going back to cloth, do you all find that coconut oil is enough of a barrier or is CJs Butter worth the cost?  I ordered some and it is here, before I knew the rash was not diaper rash.  I don't want to keep unless it is definitely recommended over coconut oil as a regular barrier.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

Have you tried fleece liners? I had an issue with wet rash, got aveeno rash cream to clear it up and started adding fleece liners to every diaper. We haven't had an issue since then and I am back to using coconut oil.

No, I need to get some of those for sure I think.  We use BG 4.0s at night and I needed to increase absorbency, but liners would be good for prefolds.  We are going the beach this week so was wondering if CJs is magic, then I will take it...if it is no big deal, then I will return it :)   I will definitely order liners next week...can't do in time for being away.

  • I use coconut oil for daytime and it works well. I use Yum Bum Butter at night and whenever she gets a bit red-clears it right up. You could use the CJs whenever you want a bit of a boost.

  • I use coconut oil, CJs and Angel Baby Bottom Balm...  I use one of them after every poop depending on a) what's handy and b) if her bum looks red.  If all looks fine, I just slather on coconut oil.  If it looks like she's got a red spot of any kind I grab which ever cream is closest.  I gave daycare a stick of CJs, so they use that there.  I have a couple of little sample pots I use in the diaper bag and then mostly use the ABBB at home.  I'd keep it, but I know I'd use it eventually.

  • I didn't really use anything for every day, but I found that coconut oil wasn't really enough for more than just a tiny bit of redness so I just stuck with CJ's BUTTer.

I also use CJ's on all kinds of things.  Eczema, dry patches of skin, "healing" bumps and bruises... I also couldn't settle on one flavor so I have tons of sample bottles all over the place. I keep some in my purse, the diaper bag, the car, the bathrooms, etc.

  • If it's just a bit of redness, I'll use coconut oil first. CJ's is my backup, though, if the coconut oil doesn't get the job done quickly enough. Because it is more expensive, I don't use it regularly or as a preventative, but it does work very well for us when she actually breaks out.

  • I have never used coconut oil but I am a big fan of CJ's I just started using it a couple days but my little guy has serious eczema and sensitive skin and it has been doing the job well

  • I'm fairly certain that my LO is allergic to coconut oil and CJs never did it for us (we had to use the vegan formula that doesn't contain coconut oil).  We use grandma el's or grovia magic stick at every change because he has a very sensitive bottom.
