16 wk prenatal appt?

Hi ladies just wondering what I should expect at my 16 week prenatal appt tomorrow. When I called the hospital they said they're just checking my cervical length, but I could've sworn my OB said they'd be taking measurements of the babies and potentially be able to tell us the sexes. I guess I just want to know what to expect so I'm not disappointed.

  • OB sounds like (s)he is describing the anatomy scan, which should happen between 18-20w.

  • Do you know what kind of twins you are having?  I'm having mo-di twins, and they did the first monitoring for TTTS at 16 weeks, so they did measure both babies, the fluid levels, and my cervix.  It seems to me they would have told you if it was a monitoring appointment for TTTS though.

If you're having di-di twins, the monitoring for TTTS wouldn't apply.

Married 8/2008. IVF with PGD March 2013.
    3/22 ER: 25R, 20M, 15F. 9 genetically normal, and 3 survived to Day 5
    3/27 ET: transferred 1 embryo, beta 9dp5dt=163, 12dp5dt=639
4/25 1st ultrasound at 7 weeks = identical twins with heartbeats?!!!
PPROM at 31w, delivery at 32 weeks of two beautiful girls

  • I saw a MFM for cervical checks- and at every check they measured my cervix and then did an abdominal u/s to check on the boys- including measurements. And my boys were di/di- the only "risk" factors I had was my age and I was carrying twins.

    Yea that's what I thought...

So new to this I don't know what TTTS is, but I'm having di di twins so I guess it doesn't matter for me.

Thanks for this. I really want to see them tomorrow and know they're growing ok. It would be a perk if they could tell us the sexes.

Sorry. It means twin to twin transfusion syndrome, but not a complication you need to be concerned about.

Since they are measuring your cervix, I'm sure you'll get a peak at the babies, but I just don't know how detailed they will be in doing measurements. I only mentioned the TTTS monitoring, because they had a specific reason to be measuring baby size.
