Stupid Question

I'm sorry ladies as I realize this is probably a dumb question but this is my first pregnancy and not familiar with how everything works. My question is what does a cervical check and measurement consist of? What are they looking for? I'm sure they don't stick a ruler up your tootoot so how do they measure it? Thanks ladies!

They don't stick a ruler up there, but an ultrasound wand. That's how they measure it. :

My mfm checks it with a vaginal ultrasound. They just make sure the cervix is closed and measure the length to make sure it's not shortening or dilating.

Mine did both a trans vaginal and regular ultrasound. They would check me first without pressure and then press down on my belly to see I there was a change. They always told me the length and let me know everything was ok.
