My best friend is throwing me a baby shower December 7th. I am due on the 26th. I am just worried that I won't have enough time to get the things that I didn't recieve at the shower. Ive never heard of a shower being this close to a due date...is this common?

Re: Question on baby shower timing
There is not "absolute" on when showers should take place.
As far as 'getting what you need', remember that a BABY really doesn't NEED all that much. Diapers, a place to sleep, food. Focus on those items and you'll be fine. Oh- and yeah, transportation (i.e. carseat).
I think you will be fine.
I agree with the PP-- you really don't need much in the beginning. For the first 3 months -- this is what we used/ needed:
diapers/ wipes
carseat
bouncy chair
bottles (if FFing)
maybe 7-10 sleepers and onesies
pack and play
That's it. It was actually really eye opening as to how little a newborn really needs

This question was just discussed the other day:

Basically any time in 3rd trimester is appropriate. If Dec 7th is what works for your hostess, as a shower is a gift to you you have the choice to accept the gift or decline it. Ultimately it is your responsibility to purchase all needed items for baby, regardless of having a shower or not. There is no guarantee that having a shower earlier in pregnancy will give you more time to prepare for baby, some showers are canceled or postponed because MTB is on bedrest, or ends up delivering early. Many cultures believe it's bad luck to have a shower or any kind of celebration before the baby actually arrives, and other women do not have a shower because no one offers to throw them one (again, it's a gift to the MTB, not a right of passage that comes with being pregnant.)
My showers were at 28 weeks & 37 weeks, I would have preferred them to be closer to the 30-34 week timeframe, but those were the only dates that worked for the hostesses. It's been about 10 days since the second shower and I've made a few trips to BRU and BBB to return/exchange items, but it's honestly been a nice distraction as I'm sitting here waiting for baby to show up.
Bottom line: If you find an item you want/need for baby at a good price, go ahead and buy it for yourself. Amazon has 2 days shipping and better prices than BBB or BRU, so there is definitely time to get anything you might still need to purchase before baby arrives. (And honestly, baby only needs a few outfits, somewhere to sleep, a carseat, food and diapers for the first few weeks, when the actual need arises for a specific item, you can send DH or someone out to buy it at that time.)
