Men are awful at grocery shopping.

We stopped at the grocery store on Sunday on our way home from a party.  G was sleeping in the car so DH volunteered to go in (we mostly needed stuff for his lunches anyway).  He comes out and starts telling me about his purchases.  I had had 3 glasses of sangria, so my filter was a little broken.  I laughed at him when he explained to me that he bought a whole pineapple because it was so much cheaper per pound.  I explained to him that once you remove the top, skin, spine, and core, you really don't save all that much...especially if you are too lazy to prepare it to begin with.  He got all mad and huffy.  It's Tuesday, he only has one day left of work, and that pineapple he bought for his lunches this week is sitting in my kitchen, unscathed.  Also, he bought only 4 bananas.  Does he live in the same house as me?  Some weeks we go through as many as 16!

What crazy things has your SO done to be "helpful" at the grocery store...or at home for that matter?

  • This is funny. Jacob does most of our grocery shopping (which he is a pro at) But he also buys the whole pineapple because he says it is cheaper. But he also chops it up asap. He eat almost 2 a week. And word on the bananas.

  • Oh my gosh, my DH is sooo bad at grocery shopping too. Here is his loot from last night's trip:

    - Frozen Pizza

    - White Castle burgers

    - Ben & Jerry's

    - Fritos

    - White bread

    - Honey Graham O's

Um.. are you serious?? Have you EVER seen any one of those things in our house?? He was like a kid in a candy store. Needless to say, I had to immediately go back to the store for actual groceries.

  • My DH totally can't grocery shop either. He is one of those shoppers that advertisers LOVE. Any new, cool, flashy thing he'll buy, no matter how unlikely it will be that we'd actually eat it. Cereal is the worst. It seems like they are always trying to sell something new and weird!

DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.

  • DH will buy any food marketed towards children. "Look at that new Captain Crunch cereal, we should try it! It has insertcartooncharacterhere on it!", "Sweet! Dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets!", "Super Mario gummies!".

  • DH went shopping yesterday. He stuck to the list I sent him, but I should have been more specific. I sent him the list via text and one thing I asked for was Whole Milk Cheese. He bought whole milk and shredded cheese. :/ This was supposed to be for LO. The shredded cheese is hard for DS to get much in his mouth and WTH are we going to do with whole milk. DS isn't on it yet. I guess DH will drink it.

I also specified that the avocados be soft because last time he thought they were supposed to be hard. Well they were practically mush this time. sigh.

I'm surprised he didn't buy Oreos, chips and ice cream. LOL

I'll take those White castle burgers!
I love white castles....god I wish they were in the South :[
Hubs is actually great at grocery shopping. Helping with Laundry.....ugh no. I have to specifically say exactly weekday I want him to do. Most times I'll just do it myself.

  • DH does most of our grocery shopping, but he goes at like 10 at night when the deli and bakery aren't open in the store so we always end up with packaged deli meat. And he has a habit of buying the same things over and over even though we don't need it. For instance, we had 5 bags of baby carrots at one time! None opened and some starting to dry out.
  • The thing about my DH is that he will buy things he didn't go in for.  Now that he understands that we need a list so I can shop based on sales and print coupons before I go, he is better about it.
  • My SO is pretty good at grocery shopping. Only problem is, when I send him with a list I get a thousand phone calls.

What's white balsamic dressing? What kind of chicken? What goes with the spinach? I can't find goat cheese anywhere.

BTW, that goat cheese thing happened like 4 times. Next time we went shopping together I found it in like two seconds.

Cut 'em up, steam 'em, and freeze them!

  • I have to say I am pretty lucky. DH is a good shopper, as long as I give him a list. While he was unemployed he always went for me.  Plus, since he did the cooking, he was able to make some awesome dinners from ideas at the store. Now that he is back at work, we go maybe once every two weeks.  DC is across the street from the store so I can run in and grab a few items.

I have learned that punctuation is EVERYTHING when texting a grocery list to a man. This cracked me up.

I just must say.... DF is waaaaay better at grocery shopping than myself. All the choices and food overwhelms me and if I don't have a list, I'm screwed [seriously, we'd end up with like peanut butter, berries and marshmallows or something random like that]. I suck at grocery shopping and I hate going.

This is me! I don't mind eating the same things over and over again, so if I went grocery shopping I would probably just end up getting  a bunch of Lean Cuisines, Doritos, cans of soup, and chocolate. I'm way better at feeding DD than I am at feeding myself.

Well, all my commas were appropriately placed. I think he just thought I was getting ready to give it to DS since we've been talking about it so much.

Doesn't matter anyway. DS is giving me all kinds of sh!t at dinner time lately. Gets tired and maybe teething and starts knocking all his food off the tray. Ticks.Me.OFF!! The only solids he would eat last night were strawberries and then he ate a whole jar of sweet potatoes in one minute flat.
