If you've done sleep training with your LO did they seem "off" for a few days? ... ferber method is going great with DD 6mo. At night she falls asleep in less than 5 min.
But she seems a lot quieter and. .. just not as talkative, smiley, etc. This was something I was afraid would happen and I'm hoping she starts acting more herself soon. .. what did you experience??
Re: sleep training affect personality?
We did Ferber when DS was 6 months old. Upon sleeping better with the training, he woke up happier -- lots of smiles -- more rested and less fussy. Nothing negative.
I didn't see any personality changes in either that were anything less of how they normally behaved. At most, they both became more able to play on their own on the floor, which was nice for me. Maybe you are feeling some natural guilt towards self-soothing, it can be hard to accept at first. I remember I had to lock DH out of the house when we started sleep training DD1 because he just felt like we were torturing her, and he always thought she was sad.
I think it depends on the child. A more sensitive child can react poorly to CIO approaches. Whereas a child who was getting no sleep prior and really needed it would be much better off and happier. My niece reacted poorly to sleep training (flat affect during the day, super clingy and crying approaching bedtime, not eating enough) so they went back to holding her til she fell asleep. In another month she was STTN on her own anyway. I know it really works for a lot of people, but it might depend on your child's temperament how well they react.
