Working Moms

Anyone do this?

I have a half day today. I kept my 3 month old in day care. To my credit, I have not had uninterrupted sleep since he was born. I plan to crawl into bed and stay there until its time to pick him up. I feel bad though and the house is incredibly quiet.

Ive totally done that.  In fact a few weeks ago both DH and I had a half day and we went to bed and slept and watched TV.  LOL.  I have a half day today too but Im going shopping :)

  • Haven't had the chance but totally would jump at the opportunity to go to the gym, get a manicure, have the house to myself for a few hours. Enjoy it mama!

I've absolutely done this.  If I've had the day off, I've sent DS to daycare anyhow to run errands and have some down time.
  • That's a very popular idea on this board.

Being a working mom has its downsides, but the ability to take advantage of a few hours of "free because already paid for" childcare is one of the perks!

  • Doing it tomorrow.  Both DH and I have half days.  We are going out to lunch.  I ccan't tell you how excited I am for a quiet relaxing lunch.

We will pick DD up at 6, as usual.

  • I've left DS in DC a few times when I got off early - so I could clean the entire house, do dishes & laundry uninterrupted.

  • I'm on week three of working half days (summer school) and have yet to pick DD up before 3:30, even though I am off at 12:30. In my defense she has just gone down for a nap at 12:30 and she doesn't transfer so picking her up at 12:30 would just mess up the nap she needs.

I've been napping myself (1st tri) and packing for our move. Everyone is fine!

  • I am going to do it for the first time on Friday. I have the whole day off and am going to drop her off at daycare anyways.

I usually keep her home with me when I take days off, but this time I am doing it for me!

    Enjoy your sleep!!

  • I haven't done this, but I dreamed about it during the six month growth spurt.

    ENJOY.

  • i have done this and it is wonderful!  If I get out of work a little early, I wait to pick DS up at the normal time. I'll get errands done or clean up around the house. I am looking forward to a day when DH and I are both off and can take advantage of the day.

My brother and his wife do this on a weekly basis.  He does not work on Thursdays.  (Does 4 10 hour days I think) but my nephew still goes to daycare.  His wife works occasional weekends. When she does, she gets a weekday off during the week. Nephew goes to daycare that day as well.

  • Update: I slept 3 hours curled up with my poor neglected Great Dane. It was fantastic. I will be doing this again for sure.

  • Um, yes I do this sometimes.  In fact, I go on vacations w/o my baby occasionally.  I also regularly get sitters so DH and I can go out.

Taking care of yourself is a good thing!!!  Do not feel guilty.

  • Yep! I have even called out of work "sick" and still had DH take DD to daycare.

Daycare is also very close to work so I occasionally stop by the store or run a quick errand before I pick her up if I need to so that I don't have to deal with getting her in and out of the car (or just to do my errand in peace)

I have Friday off work but DH doesn't he will be taking her to daycare that day too so I can sleep in, then I plan to go to lunch with a friend.

I think a lot of us have done something along these lines from time to time. We pay for daycare and it's not like there is a rule out there that you MUST be working during the whole time they are there.
