Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Retracted testicle?

We went for my son's 6-month well visit today, and we found out that his one testicle is not in his scrotum.

At previous appointments (different doc...we moved), they always felt his sack and said he had two testicles, so I am assuming they were in the sack then.

His new doc said we would see where it was at his 9-month, and if it was still high, we would have to see a specialist.

Anyone else encountered their son's testicle moving back up? The doc today said sometimes they move up and then drop down again, but I am wondering when (or if) this will stop happening.

My son did also have an umbilical hernia, so I have to wonder if this is related.

Re: Retracted testicle?

  • This happened with my son at his 4 month check up. His pedi couldn't find his right testicle. She said that she had felt it before but to be on the safe side she sent us for an ultrasound. She then said if it didn't show on the ultrasound they would look again at his 6 month check up and possibly discuss surgery with me. That possibility freaked me out but she said it wasn't uncommon. They were able to locate it at the ultrasound. I wouldn't stress too much. Can they maybe order an ultrasound for him? Good luck. Smile

  • They could feel the second one...it up not up in his abdomen but like right next to his penis (if that makes sense). So it's definitely there, but it's just moved up again from his scrotum.

So did your son's ever drop back down?

  • Ah, I see. Connor's was no where to be found when his pedi checked at 4 months. We went for the ultrasound later that week and it was back. His pedi didn't seem concerned at that point. I hope everything turns out allright for your LO.

  • My oldest had one his retract and then it came back down on it's own.  My pedi said it was pretty common and not to worry about it.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
