labor pains or ?? advice please!

I am 33 weeks today and I have been contracting off/on for 10 weeks.  At my NST Saturday I was contracting and could barely feel them.  Cervix was closed, FFN was negative.  I woke up today with what feels like menstrual like cramping all through my back.  I was having a lot of contractions this morning that I could feel, and ever since it is just this horrible low back pain, occasionally radiating around the front.

I never went into labor with my first, so I really have nothing to compare this to.  I can't tell if the babies have maybe shifted and are sitting on a nerve, or if this could be labor?  I am having a much harder time walking today and feeling more pressure. The tylenol I took has done nothing.  Laying down and changing positions isn't helping either.  I know that you can't tell me for sure, just looking for advice.  I hate to go into L&D when I was just there.  Also my regular OB appointment is tomorrow afternoon.  Any advice is appreciated!

Re: labor pains or ?? advice please!

  • I would call your OB. When I was twenty four weeks I had lower back pain that radiated around to my front and when I told my OB she said to call if it happened again. Luckily, it didn't. If I were you I would call and let your doctor make the call as to whether you can wait until tomorrow or if you should go to L and D.

  • Please call your OB. I went through the exact same thing last week and was sent to L&D. They ended up keeping me overnight due to twin A scoring a 6 out of 8 at the biophysical and contractions (that I never felt most of!). Better to play it safe!

  • I agree. If you can't get a hold of your OB, I would go directly to L&D if possible. I didn't realize I was truly in labor with my last baby (my 4th) and had the same thing you are mentioning. Went the entire day walking around and even went to the store. I would just stop whenever I would get what I thought were cramps. They were irregular and my other kids were induced, so I wasn't sure. I finally went to L&D that night and when they checked me I was 7cm dilated. It was crazy. :) I'm actually worried the same thing will happen with my twins now. :)

  • Thanks everyone. I ended up calling OB right after I posted this. When I got to L and D I was contracting every 1.5 minutes. I was given procardia which didn't help then mag sulfate which I had a horrible reaction to. Admitted and back to procardia now which is helping some. Thankfully no dilation but I am thinned out. Waiting for doc to come in to fins out what is next!
