Birthday party decorations

I both love and loathe Pinterest and Etsy.  I have so many ideas, too many in fact, and I can't decide what to keep and what to forget!  It's really paralyzing in that I can't really move forward until I make some decisions!  I want it to be cohesive without being too matchy.

And then I realize that this is a party for a one year old.

And then I realize that this is a party for a one year old.

Yep. That's my thought process. "Oh, I have to pin this, and this, oh and this!" and then I look at my board and I'm like, "Yea right."

I'm buying balloons at the dollar store and tablecloths. The cupcakes will have little D flags on them. That's the extent of my decorating.

  • I'm doing dollar tree steamers, table clothes, paper plates, cups and .....maybe balloons. I really despise them but its a kids party. Wouldn't look right without then I guess. The only theme things I'm doing are banner, high chair devour, cake and maybe a door decor. That's all my matching.

  • I can't tell you how many times I've changed my mind on the theme. I finally just picked something and bought a decor item in the theme so I wouldn't change my mind...

Now I'm overthinking the decorations. I keep reminding myself that no one is going to be paying attention to decorations at all; all they're going to care about is W and food.

  • I just ordered the decorations this morning from a site called Birthday Direct. I was specifically looking for a girl's zoo animals theme and they offered free shipping. I did go a little overboard with huge balloons and high chair decorating kit, but I still only spent around $80.00. I really have no interest in making any of my own decorations and I like everything to match.
  • We're going to be outside.  I bought plastic table covers and stand-up cardboard centerpieces.  I also bought a digital image of cupcake toppers on Etsy; I just need to print them and attach them to sticks.  (This was much cheaper than buying them already assembled!)  And I am ordering some balloons to tie to the deck rails.

    That's it.

I'm ordering a little package on Etsy that includes invitations, banner, cupcake flags, and a highchair sign.  Everything else I'm getting at iParty/Target and it won't be fancy.  I'm not getting balloons, but might buy flowers because I like them.  We're having it at my MIL's beach house and no amount of decorating is going to cover up her knickknack obsession.

This is what I did.  I bought the package from TomKat Studio on Etsy.

Love TomKat studio!! That's where I ordered all the paper goods (plates, napkins, cupcake liners, etc...)

I've got a Cricut machine so I'm making most of the decorations, invites, favor bags, etc. I'm ordering a bunch of those really big round balloons you see in photo shoots as well as some paper lanterns. Our party is in a pretty big outdoor space so I've got a lot of decorating to do so it doesn't look barren.

I am ordering huge balloons, but beyond that I'm making everything. I'm dip dying her table cloth, making a tassel banner and bunting and a little display for her monthly pics. That's all I'm doing though...but it's fun for me. If I wasn't doing that I'd be whipping up something else, so I might as well.
I'm very crafty...I just need to pick my projects, lol!  My brain: "I need something to hang from the ceiling.  Oh, I can do paper lanterns!  What about tissue pompoms?  Those are cute!  Oh.  Tulle pompoms!  So pretty!  Are they too pretty for a boy?  No, they aren't too pretty in rainbow colors...so now we have paper lanterns, tissue pompoms, and tulle pompoms.  Wait, that's too much, it's going to look tacky..."

I ordered the vintage train package for Micah's bday.  Now I'm obsessed with TomKat and feel like I have to order something from them for every holiday.  Luckly for my bank account they have a lot of seasonal freebies!!

LOL- I did the same thing!  I have like 6 tutorials pinned on how to make a paper pom, then my DH told me "waaaay to girlie". I had paper lanterns in a basket then didn't get them because I changed my mind.
