Not SSTN yet?

Any other mom's suffering from this? So many babies we know around his age are sleeping through the night and I get a million suggestions from them about how to get him too. We EBF (for now) and get everything from give him formula, cereal right before he goes to bed, let him cry, move him to his own room...I'm ok with the way it's going. He wakes up 3-4 times at night and nurses, then goes right back to sleep. I'm just sick of peoples suggestions about something that isn't their problem.

Re: Not SSTN yet?

  • Um yeah.  We used to STTN but not anymore.  I figure that she's only 5 months old and if she's not ready to STTN the night consistently, then she's just not ready.  The most comforting thing anyone has told me about it came from my parents.  They both said "well, you didn't sleep through the night until you were two."  A little disheartening? Yes. But at least it's not advice that I didn't ask for like the gems my MIL offers.

Same here. I refuse to rush away his "baby time" and motn wake ups are part of that.. I just consider it another quiet cuddly moment to spend with him and that's what I tell anyone that ofters their "advice"...
  • I'm going threw the same thing, and my little guy is ff he use the STTN up until about a month ago he is 5 months , he then started cutting teeth finally cut his bottom two now its about two nights a week that he will STTN.... My mom who is old school says give him cereal well I really wasn't into that before six month or even starting the solids but about two weeks ago he got so constipated that I gave in and gave him prunes cleared him right out....I guess the point to my post is that it doesn't matter if there bf or ff or have cereal they are gonna start and STTN when they are ready to.....very discouraging at times, I have had my lil man in a bed time routine since 4 weeks cause I had to go back to work
  • I got so tired of these comments (especially from my grandmother who is wierded out by BFing) that I lie and say he sleeps through the night. Probably not the right thing to do, but it keeps me from snapping at everyone

  • DD still doesn't STTN. We also get unsolicited advice whenever it comes up, I do my best to brush it off.

  • Well, since STTN is technically 5 hours of sleep, LO does occasionally STTN.  But around that she wakes up all the time to eat.  And she's in a phase right now where she eats fairly frequently, definitely 3-4 time per night.  Normal for BFing babies!  Tell them to butt out (whoever is bugging you).  Your LO probably feels very loved and secure with all the mommy time.

  • FWIW, our girls were up at least once a night, every night...until last week. They're both EBF (via bottle -- I EP). Literally, out of nowhere, they both decided to STTN -- and have every night this week. Prior to that, we were ALWAYS up sometime between 1AM and 3AM -- and it was always one or the other waking up -- not just one of them causing issues :)

Of course, this comes days before we have to wean from the swaddle, so I have a feeling this is temporary, but it weirdly happened out of nowhere for us. ::shrug::

I'm still up to pump at 1AM, so it's all the same to me, but I would have thought the wake up would have just gotten later and later in the morning and they would gradually lengthen that first sleep stretch....versus disappearing randomly altogether.

  • DS still wakes up once or twice and goes right back to sleep, though he has slept all night without needing to nurse a handful of times.  I say that since we're okay with that then it is just fine.  If hearing people's suggestions makes you frustrated, then just say that he sleeps well and leave it at that.

We're not even remotely close to STTN.

If it doesn't bother you to get up, then tell those other moms you don't mind it and don't need their advice. They all get there eventually.. if he needs to eat right now, let him eat.

We are back to waking twice a night to eat. They are growing, so not much I can o about it.
