Hello Moms!
This post is probably going to sound like I have way too much time on my hands but so be it. I have a hard time making decisions!
I have a 6-month-old and I am trying to decide between the City Mini and the UppaBaby G-Luxe. I know that the City Mini is a regular stroller and you have the option of adding a car seat (which I don't need to do but I can use it for a future child) and that the G-Luxe is an umbrella stroller. You see we have a BOB already which has been wonderful. We live near the beach and we can take it down on the sand and over practically any surface. It is a beast though and we just keep it standing in the house. We also have a snap n go that I have loved without a doubt because it has been so easy to take anywhere and just keep in my car. What I am looking for is an everyday stroller, one that I can keep in the back of my car, because she is growing out of the car seat and I will no longer be able to use the snap n go. I have tested them (uppababy and city mini) both out at BuyBuyBaby so I know how they open and close. I love how easy the City Mini is to open and close. The UppaBaby is not as good but it is still quite easy. I noticed the UppaBaby did seem to be a little easier to maneuver than the City Mini. What I really like about the City Mini is that you can add a snack tray, with the UppaBaby you can't. How often do you use your snack tray (if you have one)? Which stroller do you have or prefer? How far up in age will it take you? I just can't decide between the two.
Re: City Mini vs. UppaBaby G-Luxe
I also have a Bob for walks around the neighborhood and used a snap-n-go when she was in an infant seat.
That being said, I have the g-luxe and think it's great. I didn't look at the city mini because I wanted a reclining umbrella that I could keep in my car for quick trips into stores, restaurants etc. I love how easy it is to recline and the sunshade is huge. I also really like that it can stand on its own. Very convenient when we do have it in the house since we don't have a ton of storage.
As far as a snack tray option, we don't really have a need for that yet. We attached a toy using a strap to the frame of the stroller. We have a snack tray for the BOB and haven't used it. Not sure if we'll miss having this option down the road or not but at this point it's nbd.
Lucies List:
A. The City Mini
The City Mini was my original love -- I was horny for this stroller the first time I laid eyes on it; so compact, sleek, sporty, easy to fold. Mmmmmm mmm. Since I [then] lived in the city (SF) and had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to my apartment, I needed something lightweight that also had some suspension. A 57-pound stroller the size of a small golf cart (sneeze: BOB) was not going to fit the bill.
Here?s the thing: it collapses into a neat, carry-able package with one lift of the arm (see my quick demo here). That?s it! When you?re at the subway station and you realize the elevator is out of service, this is the stroller you wished you had. Yes, it has a pivoting front wheel, which makes it easy to steer with one hand (you are so demanding!). It scoffs at bumps and curbs. The seat lies down flat for a napping baby (what I call the ?first class? position) and sits up for ?Coach? ? and every position in between. It?s also beautifully designed. Yes my dears... it?s the iPhone of strollers. It also has a fabulous sun shade that pulls alllll the way down.
If you really only want *just one* stroller in your life, you could get this stroller with the carseat adapter and be done with it.
The one downside is the small cargo basket. You can?t take this one to the grocery store and plan on filling it up, sadly (you can only fit about 4 bottles of wine in the bottom)?(so I?ve heard).
This stroller costs about $240, comes in a few sporty colors and never (nay, rarely) goes on sale. Sorry.
* Last year, Baby Jogger came out with the City Mini GT, which is the lovechild of the City Mini and the beloved all-terrain City Elite. If you want the features of an all-terrain stroller without the size and bulk, check out the City Mini GT for $100 more.
* Both of these also come in a double version.
UPPABaby 2013 G-Luxe
Price: $220
Weighing in at 11 lbs, the G-Luxe is the most popular umbrella stroller 'round these parts. Technically, it's the lightest and tallest full-size umbrella stroller that reclines. The 2013 model has amazing, high performance 5.5" wheels with shock absorbing suspension and new hand-level triggers for a quicker fold. This guy also stands up on his own and has the superior sunshade that UPPA is known for. This is the one I use on a daily basis [so you should definitely buy it, RIGHT?? Kidding].
