Bouncer chair question

Is the headrest on those vibrating baby chairs necessary for new borns?

I got one as a gift from someone who came back from vacation so I am not able to return it but the headrest wasn't in the box. So would it not support a new borns neck properly, or am I okay to use it right away either way?
