Kick Counts?

I'm 22 weeks tomorrow and baby boy has been pretty active except these past 2 days. I felt him a little bit last night and I THINK I felt him a little today nothing nearly as strong as before that Im second guessing what I feel.

We had our appt on Friday and he had a great HB in the 150s, was swimming away from the doppler and was active that afternoon. He even kicked hubby's hand that night

Should I worry about his lack of activity this weekend? He always kicks low and towards my front and I always feel it from the outside. Maybe he's turned around now and kicking the placenta?

I forgot to ask my doctor when I should start monitoring his kicks. When is everyone else here starting? I'll be asking my doctor tomorrow...

Thanks Ladies!

Re: Kick Counts?

  • My doctor stressed to not expect constant movement til a bit later.   I think kick counts are a third tri thing. She said she gets a lot of unnecessary middle of the night calls so you're not alone in your worrying.

Ok thanks! I'll try not to focus too much on it tonight and maybe he'll surprise me with a nice kick

Try drinking some oj and the kicks should step it up. But I never did kick counts with DS. They just seemed pointless to me.

My OB told me not to start kick counting until after 27 or 28 weeks. I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe try what PP said, drink some OJ and lay
    on your left side.

  • I'm 20 weeks and my lo is VERY ACTIVE ALL THE TIME I HAVE BEEN FELLING KICKS Since about 16 weeks and it seems this weekend she has Been slacking off a bit and not kicking as much as what she used to, but at least she is still kicking right? Lol
  • Kick counts are important to start around 28weeks. Some people may not see the need to do them or think it will make their anxiety worse but I can not stress the importance of them! They have been proven to save lives! Yes it can make you worry on a slow day or cause an "unnessacary" trip to the Dr, but your baby's life is soo worth it.

Please if I add anything to this board talk to your Dr about kick counts. If your Dr doesn't have much to say, ask me and I can give you plenty of websites that will give you valuable information.

I speak from experience!!! Pleas please please do kick counts. Please

  • I'm 21 weeks and have felt kicks since 18 1/2 weeks. My midwife said that as long as I feel one kick a day that's good. She said anymore than that is bonus at this point.:
  • Thanks for all the input ladies!

Baby Boy started kicking when I was at work...he seems to be more active when I'm at my desk versus being at home..maybe he's working too...LOL...I did ask my Doctors office about it and her nurse said to start kick counts at 28 weeks.
