Charlotte does not care for...

...the beach.

We went for the first time today and at first, she was merely unimpressed.  Then, she didn't care for the way the water touched her and then went away.  (Those pesky waves, I tell you!)  Also, there was the rubbing of sand into her eyes and mouth, both of which were not her favorite.

Tomorrow, we are putting a giant towel under our shade tent and hopefully she'll play there without too much sand interference.

I also think she'd be fine IN the water, but the lapping wave action just had her all concerned.  So if the water is warmer we'll try out her floaty thing.

Any other non-beach babies out there?  (This makes me SUPER glad we joined an outdoor pool for the summer!)

  • We haven't taken DD to the beach yet, but I read on several blogs the suggestion to buy a small inflatable pool and set that up with a small amount of water. That would keep her out of the sand and waves!

  • We live 20 minutes from the beach but I'm not too excited to go. I don't much like sand myself. Much prefer the outdoor pool. I'm sure we'll go once just to say we did.

This is what DH wants to do the rest of the week!  Other than the fact that everyone else will use it to keep beer/margaritas cold, it seems like a good idea to me.  ;o)

  • Haven't been to the beach ( 3+ hr drive for us) but DS HATES the pool.  I literally had claw marks on my back from him holding on.  He screamed the whole time that he was in the water.  He walks around the edge of the baby pool just fine.  He doesn't seem to trust me holding him or doesn't feel secure enough with the water surrounding him.  Sad

  • Nene's first time went horrible5. I wasn't there (had to work). They (grandparents, aunt uncle cousin went to Savannah. ) The minute she stepped in the beach she started ugly scream crying. Forget about going IN the water. She sat in a beach chair and wouldn't put her feet down. You woukd have thought it was lava.

The second time was not as bad. She could walk on the sand. Now getting the water consisted of hokding onto my leg and justriding the waves whining. She wasn't a fan. I'm hoping next vacay she'll have gottn over her fears. The ages were 2 and 3. I

  • On our bumpie gtg last week, all the boys were splashing around, playing in the sand, etc, and E stayed on my hip.  When I lowered her toward the water or sand, she would lift her legs.  She loves the pool, not yet the beach.
  • When I went with my sister [there was no thought in the world of my own baby yet] my sister had a huge blanket, tent, inflatable baby pool, buckets, and a bunch of toys. Kept everyone entertained. Especially me because i still spend my days at the beah digging for water, and building castles
