Ear infection/breastfeeding

I also posted this on the Breastfeeding board FYI...

My little guy started refusing to nurse Saturday afternoon. He was also fussy and had a low grade fever. Today we went to the doctor and found out he has a double ear infection. He's been a bit fussy with bottles but better than with the breast. I have been pumping and bottle feeding since Saturday. Which I really hate to do on weekends when I'm not at work, but it seems more comfortable for him. I'd much rather pump only while at work. I have offered the breast for almost every feeding but he screams. I have tried a few different positions. Do I need to push him a bit more to nurse? Or will this resolve on its own once he's feeling better?

Re: Ear infection/breastfeeding

  • Poor baby and poor momma!! We had a similar problem several weeks ago and the ONLY position he would nurse it was it I sat on the edge of my cough, had him straddle one of my legs and nurse sitting straight up with me supporting him obviously. It was annoying but it got is through that nursing strike and he seemed to prefer that to laying down to nurse. Good luck!
