SO on sleep

So, Saturday DD suddenly started staying awake longer between naps. She would previously be awake for 1.5 hours or so, but starting Saturday she's been awake for 2 to 3 hours, and right now I'm trying desperately to get her to nap after 3.5 hours and she's showing no signs of being sleepy. She's had like, 90 minutes of nap today but she seems completely fine otherwise. Happy, talking, playing...what do you think?

Also, she cut a tooth overnight sometime so I'm wondering if that's the culprit, but again, she is the happiest I've ever seen her so I have a hard time believing she's just up because she's in pain.

Re: SO on sleep

  • Hmm... well around now many babies will start staying awake for more like 2-3 hour stretches rather than 1.5-2 (of course it's going to be a little different for every baby, but this is what they're working towards around 5-6 mo).  I wouldn't be too worried about being awake for longer than normal as long as she seems okay.  Probably just an off day.  If it were me I would just watch her like a hawk for any signs of tiredness and as soon as she sends any signals put her right to sleep.

ETA: I just realized you posted at like 6pm.  Around this age they also start to do a longer stretch before bedtime.  More like 3-4 hours of awake time leading into bedtime.  Basically they start napping 2x a day rather than 3x.  So maybe that's what she's doing?  Hope she went to bed for you okay!

Thanks! She went to bed fine. It was 5ish here and she ended up taking a little cat nap like, RIGHT when I posted. She goes to bed at 7 and sleeps great at night so guess it was just a weird day. It's just so odd for me, haha. I got into this routine with her and now poof! Gone. But that's how they roll, I guess.

  • Yeah dd started fighting her third nap just recently so for the past few days she is doing only 2 naps a day. She has also started waking up between 5 to 20 minutes around 230am every night. She usually fusses or cries just a little and then falls back to sleep on her own.

She will be 6 months on the 11th. Her schedule is sleep 11 to 12 hours at night (now with that one mini wake up). Take a 2 hour nap two hours after waking up in the morning. Then about 3 hours after that take a second  nap for at least an hour then about 4 hours until bedtime. she has seemed grumpier since napping less but she also has a little cold and might be teething.

  • 90 minutes is normal over here!
