So, I confronted my boss about my paychecks that have bounced multiple times. This time he was on vaca for a WEEK while I sat around with no money. I was very light about the situation although inside I was fuming. Needless to say, he got offended, assumed I was telling him how to run a business, and fired me. So now I don't have a job. And we just closed on our house. We will be ok scraping by for a little while until I start school again in August then it will student loans. It is just really crappy what he did. He is the owner of the preschool and I can tell you how many times on one hand that he has actually come into the school this last year. Other than that there is one director. I worked there for five years. I was one of their most loyal employees. My director sat there and didn't say one word to stick up for me.
On a good note, DH made grilled salmon and veggies on the grill with a side of mashed potatos and opened a bottle of wine. Thank goodness he is being so supportive of the situation or I would be a mess.
Thanks for listening.
Re: fired.
Wow! I am so sorry, but bounced checks are usually the first signs employees see of financial problems. I know it sucks, but it definitely sounds like you are better off. Be prepared to defend yourself if you look for another job though. If they ask for references specifically there, state ahead of time what happened, and print off bank information showing the bounced checks, etc. I just would hate this to go against you. I imagine soon the whole thing will collapse, but cover yourself for now.
I agree - particularly for the checks that bounced.
That's my plan. It even says on my statement "returned for insufficient funds". I think if I am up front about what happens in future interviews, it won't be too big of a bad thing. But yeah, I'm somewhat relieved in a way. At least I don't show up for work and the doors beocked.
Exactly!!! Since he was such a dbag about it, I went ahead to post it on FB and sooooo many of the parents from there have contacted me already. The tuition there is OUTRAGEOUS so now they are all wondering where their money is going if it is not going to their employees. May have been inappropriate for me to post something but I said no names.
I'm so sorry! That sucks. Bounced payroll checks are usually a sign of bad things to come. Hope all works out for you.
btw - Check to make sure your payroll withholdings were actually paid. My mom worked in a similar situation. Her wages were not reported to Social Security so that got messed up. Her taxes withheld were not paid. She ended up quitting because he was doing other illegal things regarding payroll.
Oh my... Thanks for the heads up!
I am so sorry this happened to you. I hope you're able to find a job. Given the situation, I'm sure employers would be understanding. hugs

Yeah, getting fired is a really upsetting situation to be in. But the way I am trying to look at it is what you all are saying... it will be for the better. Now I get the rest of the summer off with my DD!
Thanks so much for all the support. I know I am not on here often but it is nice to know there is support here always.
Thank you!!!
