NBR stores and cost of living

NBR stores and cost of living

I have never really thought about this until now, and only because I'm sorta looking for jobs out if state and I asked my cousin in IL if a particular salary was good or bad for the area cuz it is less than what I currently make. I know houses are cheaper in her area, but what about grocery stores and the big national chains like Target, Walmart, JCP, kohl's, etc.? Do the prices of their items change regionally? I can afford what I spend at Target now, but say I were to move and take a job with a lesser salary there is no way I would be able to shop Target as much as I do if the prices don't reflect the fluctuation in salaries.

I'm not sure. My sister lives in an area with a much lower cost of living than where I live, and when I've gone grocery shopping there I've noticed the food prices are higher than they are here, but other products like over the counter medication, sunblock, etc. are lower. However, I can't really make a comparison from the same chain because the grocery stores she has in her area are not the same chains that we have here.

  • A shirt, for example, will likely be the same price. Groceries, will likely not. Keep taxes and gas prices in mind, too.

  • Prices usually fluctuate per region. We are lower working class but because Ga is so cheap we equate to a higher class in a different state.

Our monthly food bill, nonholiday bday party ect, cost a family of 4, about 250-300 a month. My lil BIL lives in VA, a higher cost of living state, and is same famiky of four costa about 500 to feed. Their gal of mikk is almost 6 but ours is 3.50. We also take advantage of our wholesale club, BJ's and coupons, something that also further stretches our money.

ETA: Targetis a special trip place. Same with Kmart.  They usually have higher prices in general versus walmart and regional grocery stores like Krogers and Food Depot. I

  • I'm sure they do. They fluctuate by neighborhood. The Target in a higher income area near me has Alimentum for $27.49/can. The other one in an area frequented by people with lower incomes has it for $26.49.
  • Unfortunately, it does. DD's formula is 2 more expensive here! Plus, factor in that most states have grocery tax while AZ doesn't.

That being said, find a job somewhere we'll both love so we can be coworkers!
