XP spray painting a kids bike

I know some of you have older kids, so I thought I would post this here as well. Someone gave us an old bike with batman on it. It's in great condition, but DS1 has no clue who batman is. It's his first big boy bike and I wanted to make it more his. I'm thinking about taking it apart and spray painting it. Of course I'm gonna have get the decals off first.  Anyone ever tried this? Is it a huge hassle?

  • it shouldn't be too bad. just make sure you sand up the surface to make it rough and hit it with a spray primer first. if not the paint will likely chip. i think it sounds like a fun project that you can get nice and creative with. post before and after pics!

  • Make sure you sand it really well and use a paint that's made for metal, my brother did one once and didn't sand enough and it peeled and looked awful

  • I got all of the decals off. That was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Now its mostly black with a little blue. Looks way better, but a little sad for a kid bike. I'm torn between changing the color of the bike and buying a new bike seat. So far I haven't been able to find a seat that isn't black or girlie. I will keep you updated.
