Teething questions......

My poor little guy was such a late teether. He started to get the very first one at 11.5 months!! Now he has what looks like about 6 all coming through or right at the surface (3 have popped out a little and three are right there). Sometimes he doesn't seem in pain, but he is SUPER clingy (i.e. will not let anyone else hold him at times, he refuses to sit in highchair, carriage, et.c and has to be held). He woke up in the middle of the night last night and was inconsolable (knew it was teething as he kept putting his hands up to his mouth). I felt so bad for him.

Anyone else experience a whole bunch of teeth at once? I have been giving him the baby Advil daily, but I am kind of nervous giving him this so often because he is so young still but I don't want him to be miserable. Am I just being paranoid?  Would infant Tylenol be better or worse? I try to give him the infant Ambesol but it is really difficult to keep his mouth open to do it and he fights it the whole time. What is everyone else doing? He will also not use any sort of teether, frozen washcloth, etc. He will chew on a toothbrush though LOL! Thanks in advance!!!

    I didn't hold back when it came to the meds.  I was told I could alternate Tylenol/Advil every 4 hours by the nurses when DS had his tubes put in so I follow thst guidline when he is teething and is extremely uncomfortable.  My son wouldn't take a teether either.  I just gave him cold fluids and cold popsicles to eat.  GL!  It shouldn't last too long :)

    I know what you're going through.  My daughter always seems to get several teeth at once and didn't have any until she was 9 months old.  After her bottom two came up together, she got four on top all at once. She's currently getting four more (two of them molars).  The molars haven't broken through yet, but they're on their way.  There was no sleep in this house for two nights last week.  It's hard.  I use ibuprofen and baby orajel.  I have a nighttime/daytime combo pack of orajel.  It has helped get her through the pain.  She won't use teethers of any type and never has. Just try to keep him as comfortable as you can and it will pass. You're definitely not alone!

    I also don't hold back on the meds.  It's temporary and won't hurt as long as you follow proper dosage.  I prefer Advil/Motrin to Tylenol.  Not only does it last longer, but seems to work so much better.  

    Have you tried teething tablets?  I had Orajel months ago, but ditched it early on because most of it ended up further up my finger or on his tongue.  I use the Orajel version and though the dosage is 3 tablets, I have never had to use more than 2.

    My DD was also a late teether and tends to get a bunch of teeth at the same time. I do give her advil when she is truly miserable. I also try to give her cool foods like yogurt as they feel good on her gums. DD won't chew on the normal teething toys, but she will chew on a piece of bagel, a frozen waffle, cucumber slices, and her pacifier. Also, don't know if you have them, but try some of the Hyland's teething tablets (I get them at CVS)...they take the edge off a bit.

    Unfortunately, it is mostly just a waiting game for us. When she is teething, she is just miserable and wants mommy. She gets clingy and doesn't want to be around others. Once they break through, she goes back to normal! Hang in there and know it will end eventually.

    Aughhh poor guy! Those seem like normal symptoms for teething! I baby DS when he is teething, I let the house go to comfort him... we order out a lot during teething! Use Motrin (Advil etc), it is best to help with swelling and pain, tylenol works when I need to alternate on really bad days. DS hated teethers and Orajel never really worked for us, plus it made me nervous with all the bad reviews about it numbing the tongue. DS also liked the softer foods, I would make pasta really really soft, mixed with peas and pasta sauce. Also he loved those fruit/veggie pouches (I would put in fridge to make cold), yogurt etc. Good luck! Hopefully they will cut fast!

    This. My son has 11 teeth and 6 coming through right now that I can see-- a mixture of cuspids and molars. He's miserable and not normally a sick kid so this is the only time he needs medication. I give it to him as needed because it really helps.
