Swaddle weaning

Ok so LO is 2 months old today and has been a great sleeper. We transferred her from the newborn napper to the bassinet on the PNP a few days ago since she was getting too big for it, and she's been doing great. She usually sleeps 5-8 hrs on her first stretch at night, and has been swaddled at night basically since birth. We noticed after the transfer out of the napper that she is really mobile at night, and ends up on the opposite end of the crib from where I put her down at weird angles, even when swaddled! We use the SwaddleMe blankets so it's pretty snug.

I am concerned that since she is so active that she is going to get herself in a position (like on her tummy or in a corner) and not be able to get out of it because of the swaddle. I also read somewhere that a lot of physical development happens during sleep movement, especially once they hit 2-3 months. So we are trying to wean her from it (plus we have lots of jammies that it'd be great if she could use!).

Last night we tried in just her jammies and it started off ok, but quickly deteriorated into me being a cranky mess and the baby hardly sleeping. She slept 2.5 straight at first, and then was basically half asleep/wanting to eat for the next 4. She would be fine for 5-30 mins and then fuss and whine until she nursed herself to sleep, then the cycle would start again. There were a couple times she would self soothe by sucking her hand (she won't take a paci) but would fuss again shortly after. We gave up at 4am and put her in it and she slept for 2.5 hrs after that.

Any tips for swaddle weaning? Please? Thanks ladies!

My LO would roll to her side when sleeping. I was paranoid that if she would end smothered if swaddled! I ended up swaddling her with a blanket from the chest down and leaving her arms free. Now she prefers to have free arms! Will that work for you?

Yes she is over 13 lbs now. Is that the "magic" sleep suit you're talking about?

Yep, we used it with DD1 until she was 8 month old.  She slept like a rock in that thing.  I can't wait for DD2 to hit 12 lbs so we can move her to it.

My LO sleeps so well wrapped up in his cotton Halo swaddles!  He hardly moves in his sleep, and we'll keep swaddling until he rolls or is breaking loose.  When we weaned the 2 older boys, we weaned gradually, doing one arm out, then both, then a Halo sleepsack.  The sleepsack provided some confinement and snugness, yet their arms were out.  Plus more practical than loose blankets that get kicked off.
