Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

12 month activities

Good morning! I'm brand new on the board as my son, Bryson, turned 1 on Friday.  You may have discussed this multiple times, so I apologize in advance if I'm beating a dead horse.

Do any of you have any websites you use for ideas for educational activities?  We read daily and talk about the colors and numbers of everything we see, but now that he will concentrate a little more on sensory play, etc., I would love to do more of these things.  I've been scouring Pinterest, but most of the activities I'm finding are for older toddlers and aren't things he's capable of yet.

FTR, he doesn't walk yet.

TIA!

I am in the same boat!  My LO is 13 months today and I have such a hard time finding activities.  He's not walking either.  He loves the pool and our local shopping mall has an indoor play area that he also loves.  I would love to see what others suggest.

Another issue with us is that he doesn't go to daycare, but I would like to find things to do so that he gets some social interaction.  I've joined some meet up groups, but most of their activities take place around 10:30 or 11 which is exactly when he naps.

  • What about transferring/pouring objects like water or rice. Or working on eye hand coordination with pegs in a board, you can start with a cushiony board and push plastic pegs in holes, then work up to the hammer and pegs board. Maybe finger puppets or plastic animals to learn animals and their sounds, a couple of weeks can be barnyard, then jungle, then insects or something.  Put them in a bag and have him pull one out at a time. Also, you can do chunky puzzles...and yoga stretches.

  • For a cheap, easy, fun toy, DD did and still does love playing with pom-poms.  I cut holes in the top of a sour cream container, and bought colored pom-poms from the dollar store for her to put in.  It's great for fine motor skills development, and helps with learning colors and counting, too.

  • Thanks!  I'll try some of these.  He's hard to keep contained for long, even with things he's never seen before, so I hope he'll at least give me 30 seconds for these. :)
